If you see a cop blatently doing something wrong, such as your example of running lights just to get a paper, report it to thier Sgt. But be carefull, there are many times that we dont use our lights or sirens even though we are responding. Sometimes we maybe responding to an emergancy that requires us to speed or run lights, etc, but we dont want to attract the attention that our lights and sirens would. So from an outside person, it looks like we are just doing it because we can, most often, theres a purpose.

Maybe ! on the 50 in a 25 zone he was going in the opposite direction to me ( the reason for the 25 mph zone was going over a hill and there are residential driveways either side of the road *limited sight*). Within about 1-1 1/2 miles he had turned round and gone through three sets of lights and caught up to me (doing 5 over). I purposley followed him as I could not understand why he would have an emergency in one direction and then another in a different direction within a couple of min of each other, (not lost he knows the area I have seen him a few times giving tickets).
Report him I don't know about that, I live within a couple of miles of the incidents. Thin blue line and all that. IMO I don't think there was any emergency, if there was any doubt at all I would not have said a word.

What do you mean? Could you explain your response? Are you suggesting that if you report it that he's going to show up at your house or bother you in some way? I really hope that isn't what you mean...

No I don't expect him to come knocking on my door. However if he is told who reported him I know I may have to watch my step. You know as well as I do there are lots of small infractions that the police don't bother about...but can if they wish. I hope you are not going to tell me that all officers are above this type of thing.

No, there are bad apples in every aspect of life. Just so you know, the officer will probably never see who made the complaint. That is usually kept confidential to prevent just the situation you mentioned. But, I have yet to see an officer go out of his/her way due to a citizen complaint. If that was the case, we wouldn't have time to do anything else! Yes, people complain that much...thankfully 99.9% is unfounded, and nothing comes of it.

How, when; and where did the doughnut legend get it's start?
That all started back in the good ole days when doughnut shops were the only thing open 24 hours. They were the perfect spot for a few officers to meet in the wee hours of the morn' and have some coffee and a quick snack.

once upon a time coffe/doughnut shops were the only places open 24 hrs so naturally police officers on the midnight shift would go there for coffee, etc. people assumed cops were just lazy and liked doughnuts instead of thinking it was probably the only place open at 3 in the morning for cops to get coffee and take a break. :coffee:

A lot of the streets around my house have a no stopping any time sign on them. Would the cop care if I stop on those streets, because it doesn't make sense to drive around until a find a place to park. The same thing with a fire hydrant. If I acidently stop next to one of those, would he care?

If your refering to stopping because your being pulled over, no I would highly doubt that the officer would care that you stoped there. If there is an area that we dont want someone to stop then we will usually wait untill we are past that before activating our lights. If you do stop in an unsafe or inappropriate sopt we will usually just tell you over the PA to move ahead a few feet or walk up and ask you to move.

Its standard precedure in every dept that I'm aware of that if a citizen complaint is logged the officer is not told the name of the complainant unless it is nessesary for the case. In this example I see no reason and would highly highly doubt that the officer would be made aware.
