Based on popular demand, here's the poll.

DandyDon:
Is it time for a poll on the usefulness of polls? How long has it been?

Hip, hip - Hooray!!

I didn't vote because you didn't have an applicable option.

Polls are handy to gather raw data like when you ask a very defined question with predictable simple outcomes. An example would be " Does your significant other dive?"

As the question gets more complex, and most are the value is in the the dialog of the answers. It is there that the nuances surface and you stand a chance of learning something.

The fact that I like or do something may be totally inappropriate to you or your diving and you don't get that from a poll.
