Let me chime in with my AL & LDS experience with respect to a similar warranty job...

First let me give the credit to my LDS; Houston Scuba Academy Houston Scuba Academy

These guys have been great to me so far.

We bought my wife a BC & Reg set up: MK25/S600+Octo and Diva LX using their free rental gear while you pay off your gear program. Not a bad program if you really use it.. In fact we got a good deal on the BC. It was last year's model/color and we got the upgraded LX edition at a nice discount.

Anyway, after one fresh water dive we experienced a similar problem with the dump valve/inflate tube on the left shoulder. The one you use all the time to inflate & deflate the BC. To me it looked like all it took was a good strong tie wrap to fasten the connector to the dump vavle back to the BC, however, my wife was freaked out and wanted to bring it back to the shop to have them look at it.

When we brought it back I seem to remember having an answer on the warranty status rather quickly. In my mind it was a matter of fix or replace and I thought it could be fixed and fully expected Seaquest or the LDS to fix it for free. To my surprise in a month or so we ended up with a brand new BC at no additional cost. This one was an XLT and not the XL which was discontinued, but SHE is happy and I'm happy.

Thanks Houston Scuba Academy & SeaQuest.

I'm very sorry to hear of redrover's mishaps and frustration. It does not seem to be widespread to me.

Now, I have been totally drooling over the Suunto D9 for a few months now. Do I need it -- NO, I could use something different and get the same function. But I want it!! I've been searching all over the internet and some local dive shops. Right now I'm inclined to use LP and take my shot. I figure at least LP is better than ebay in that there's a higher percentage chance that I'll get some kind of warranty service if I need it. By the way, I don't think HSA sells Suunto computers but only Uwatec so not using my favorite LDS isn't an issue. Even if they would stock it, my view would be to ask them for their best deal then compare that to LP. I won't take up their time in the shop playing with the D9 only to order it on LP, but I will honestly seek their input and best price then make up my mind on LP or not.

Are there any other deals to be found on D-9's out there aside from LP? Even if it is a bit gray?

I went ahead and made the necessary corrections. :D

Goes for the majority of manufacturers as well, not just Aqualung.

my complaint exactly

and how does leisure pro get the equipment?????????
if it is not supported DESTROY IT! so unknowing consumers don't get ripped off buying your back door s**t.

i dont know the situation with oceanic, but online sales of ANY aqualung or any affiliated company (apeks, deepsee, US divers, etc) are strictly forbidden by all AUTHORIZED aqualung dealers

That Oceanic distinction means nothing. Their not being an Oceanic "SHOP AND BUY" dealer simply means they don't use the "canned" Oceanic website. Most of the significant Oceanic Authorized online dealers fall in the same category, just like my online store. We choose another route for our online hosting. Very simple.

Since you brought up backing things up with facts.....

You state that LP is "illegal dealer", care to cite the law(s) that they have broken? Specific codes and sections would be appreciated.

see first post in this whole thread. it states that in no way, shape or form is leisurepro an authorized aqualung dealer. Since the only way to Legitamently acquire Aqualung Goods at cost is to be an authorized aqualung dealer, they are an illegal dealer

I don't think you'll find a court of law anywhere on the planet that would equate Aqualung's policies with law. "Unauthorized" might be correct, "Illegal" is not.

if a diver uses a "defective" piece of equipment that the company will not work on because he purchase it from a nonaurthorize source would his suvivors have a right to sue Aqualung. Remember the Firestone tire recalls ..... it didn't matter where you purchased the tire, it had a problem and Firestone took it back for replacement after several lawsuits were filed due to accidents caused by their product.
