I guess about 25 years, then. Probably since somewhat after it aired initially because I didn't precisely follow Simpsons closely, but somehow the phrase "It's a perfectly cromulent word" stuck in my mind - roughly about that time seems right. To be honest I had a memory of it being Calvin in Calvin and Hobbes, and that was my cultural exposure reference, but I guess I misremembered at least that part.

In any case, you English-native-speakers are to blame. If you make up words out of thin air it's no wonder us secondary-language speakers think they are real words when we hear them on American TV. ;)

Now I'm going to have to re-watch Wallander for the 3rd time and come up with a new djävla Swedish word.

I was not expecting a quick reply, so was pleasantly surprised. I completely expected the software to need tweaking and would not use or recommend it to be used as a primary dive computer. Hopefully they incorporate updates quickly.
I finally got a response. Here it is:

From your data shown, it appears the network connection did not download all information to map the GPS location. We are currently working on an update to improve non-network abilities. I recommend opening the app with a good network connection and then going on your dive. However, on a liveaboard, this is difficult. Therefore, this is the reason we are working on this update.
For the multiple logbooks, the app will automatically en dthe dive when you acend above 1 meter. You will then need to staret a new dive. We are currently working on updating this feature as well, to reflect a timer instead of auto-ending.

I will forward your feedback to the developers to look further into this.

I normally use Shearwater Peregrine as my main computer and the AWU as a backup. They are similar as they both use the same exact algorithm and offer the same features, only that Shearwater has a couple extra like tissue loading graph. The only downside of the AWU is that you have to pay for the subscription. Other than that, it is in certain ways even better than the Peregrine. The App is easier to use, that is for sure, and it syncs seamlessly. But it costs 1.5x more. I did about 55 dives using both at the same time, so if someone is looking at the AWU for their main computer - go for it. But be aware of the 40-meters limit.

The AWU doesn't make much sense unless you also want the full smartwatch. The built-in cell phone could end up impt for a diver though. Wish I'd had the watch last summer, for some unexpected lake snorkeling. After the fact I'm curious- how deep, what was the temp below the thermocline, how many dives etc. Wearing it all the time, you get that kind of stuff for free.

• The GPS location feature often fails to display entry/exit points at all; even when you have entered and surfaced with clear skies and what should be a clean view of several GPS satellites. When this happens you just get a plain white "map" with no error message or other indication as to what went wrong.

Ive had this a few times too, my way around this is to tap the location band on my AWU display once the dive boat anchors, it seems to kick the GPS into gear and record the points for the rest of the day. The map just shows the pins until I get back in cellular 4 or 5G range, at which point the map populates.

You shouldn't have to do that, should you? The other GPS apps that I have (GPS Tracks and WorkOutDoors, to name a couple), don't need the GPS to be manually kicked in. And, both of those enable you to download maps in advance so that you don't need to wait for Internet coverage to see where you've been. Apple Maps is quite inaccurate in places. Here's a dive at Tachai Pinnacle. Apple Maps shows the dive occurring on the island:

Here are the same coordinates in Google Maps showing a more accurate location for Tachai Pinnacle:

I know Oceanic can do better. I hope they manage to do so.

If GPS coordinates provided by Oceanic worked correctly when plugged into Google Maps, then the good news is that the AWU's GPS was accurate, and it's just a matter of Apple maps improving quality control for less common, non-US locations.

The bad news is that it makes one wonder just how much testing they actually did before release.

I could not care less about GPS accuracy, but the app is very stable in doing what it is supposed to do. Dove it up To 110 ft, in Air and Nitrox mode - zero issues.
