I was trying to find the Apex reg XTX50 with 5th port turrent in the Western Europe dive shops. The only shop that had it in stock was www.deepstop.de
Absolutely not customer oriented company!

A couple months ago I traveled to Germany and decided to order the reg, a bottom timer and some other stuff in the shop with shipping to my hotel.
Before the travel I wanted to clarify a few things regarding payment, shipping dates, VAT return, etc. So, I sent them e-mail and newer received a response. Never mind, I called them for asking the questions I had.
What a surprising was the answer: “We are too busy at the moment to handle you call. Give us a call tomorrow” (sic!)
I said “it’s OK, I sent an e-mail to you guys, just check it please and provide me the answers when possible”. They replied they experienced some troubles with Internet connections, but when they sort it out, they will reply.
I waited for a week – no answers. I gave them a call again. They said that they were not able to provide the answers as they found that my e-mail is not valid. (very strange, since I successfully placed the order, and later I received e-mail advertisement connected to my order). Anyway, I finally clarified all I wanted including the information regarding VAT return. They said I need to stamp the invoice in the customs office at the EU border and return it to the shop.

I received my order in Germany which was all right. I stamped the invoice in the customs. To insure my letter with the stamped invoice is not lost when crossing the borders I asked my friend from Germany to take it there and send by Deusche Post, which is highly durable. After a week I sent them e-mail (using both my corporate and home e-mail address) with my credentials for VAT return and I gave them a follow-up call asking to check if they received the documents. They said they will. No replies for two weeks since then. I sent e-mail again. Nothing.

After all, ~100 Euro not returned VAT is not that big amount of money. But it can be big for the reputation.

Saying “they”, I mean Hans – the contact person in the shop.

Bottom line. XTX50 with 5th port is great, I’m going to buy a DIR set for twintanks. If you need just to order some dive stuff of known brands in deepstop.de, you will most probably get it. However, if you anticipate some problems or need a customer service, you’d better find another dive shop, because THEY DON’T CARE!

Sounds like the typical business around here in Central Europe. They act like they are doing YOU a favor just to allow you to buy something from them.

I feel the same. I thought that Germany is not like the rest of EU - usulally the quality of service is high there. May be it was just a bad luck in this particular case with this shop.

Hate to ask a stupid question but why is a 5th port desired? Thanks!

It improves the hose routing on a doubles set-up:

Very neat, love a Faber or two. Pity I'm to dumb to post a photo and they drilled the inlet hole in those regs in the wrong spot.
Note to self. Must practice photo posting to appear less dumb.

Here is the end of the story.
I shared my feedback I posted on the forum with deepstop.de. Hans contacted me promptly and after providing my bank account details the VAT was returned. Probably, it was just a technical problem with my e-mail box, as Hans claims. Although, I did’t notice such regarding to my other e-mail communications. Anyway, thanks to Hans for his job. And sorry if I affended somebody – it was not intentional.

P.S. Tested the regulator on a nitrox stage (checked the IP beforehand as well) in Dahab in the Small Canyon – it worked perfectly.

Lemme guess: right post: 5th port is wing inflator, other is long hose. Left post: 5th port is backup reg, HP is SPG guage. I routed mine the same way, just making sure I did it right.
