Maybe I'm mistaken, but I seems that GUE has always sorta distanced itself from George Irvine due to the bad press that goes along with his name. He may have indirect input, but he doesn't create GUE protocol, standards or procedures (though he authored a lot of the literature they reference in training).

GUE =/= WKPP

Ripping off masks used to be GI3's favorite trick.

Little over 4 years ago. Pass a fundies class and it's on their QA form.

My history may be a little hazy, but I don't think George ever taught a class for GUE. Andrew Georgitsis initially created all of GUE's training programs, not George.

GI3 was training director for the WKPP. He has never been a GUE instructor and AFAIK he has no GUE certifications.

No agency allows their students to rip off masks. If an instructor does so, then their concern for safety should be questioned. Even GUE doesn't allow their instructors to rip off masks and turn off valves. It's specifically asked in the course QA questionnaire.

Not all agencies specifically forbid it though. And i think its a good way of training. At this level the training should stress you as much as possible to improve your problem solving under stress and your way of prioritising issues. A card with "now give me your mask" or "You are now out of gas" isnt the same as suddenly having your mask vanish or trying to breathe in and getting nothing.

Ha ha ha ha!! I've been told by a tech instructor "Put 10 tech divers in a room and you'll get 100 different opinions!"

You are correct and we share the same opinion, for higher level classes. I was referring to fundies, a recreational course. I think the practice of ripping off masks in a recreational class isn't the best one due to the lack of mastery taught at the OW level.

Fair enough is mis-understood the post. Im arguing for that sort of training be allowed (although not mandatory) for advanced courses (deco proc/adv eanX) where things like stops are involved so problems have to be solved underwater.
Im in no way advocating it for entry level courses and think thats a ridiculous idea.

So, you are telling the O/P that she will indeed get her mask ripped off in a GUE trimix course? N'est pas??

And thus they will try to stress her out.

That is worth taking into account, before signing up with any GUE-type tech instoketor.
