Does anyone know where I can get an amf swimmaster mr 12 reg rebuilt? I'd like to be able to use it again. It worked fine 30 years ago, but I don't trust it now.

It's unlikely you can get a rebuild kit for it and no shop is likely to service it however the parts are available if you pick and choose from other current (or recent) Mares regs. My best suggestion is to go to Vintage Double Hose web site, join the forum and post the question in the single hose section. Vintage Double Hose There is a guy there who is pretty much a Voit guru and most likely he can give you the part numbers. I just got the parts to restore my Voit Titan II last night.

I have a couple of those and they still work fine. I was told year's ago at a SeaQuest/Mares service clinic that MR12 was the government order number. The original company that produced it recieved a government grant to develop a scuba regulator that would work well in harsh conditions for military use and the MR12 was what they came up with.

I could be wrong as I haven't work on them in a long time, but as I understand some current Mares regulators are still built using parts that will work in the old regs. Like the last guy said, you need to find an old time Mares repair guy that is current on new regulator parts and he could tell you if the parts are the same.

The "snail shell" 1st stage uses the current Mares (or AquaLung) HP seat and standard size balance chamber o ring and sintered filter.
Depending on the age there were a couple of different LP seats for the 2nd. A generic flat seat if you are lucky.....and a permanent waxy seat embedded in the poppet if not....but it can be upgraded to the modern flat type poppet retainer.

Not a difficult reg to get going.

I just rebuilt mine, parts can be gotten from other regulators including current Mares units. However, most dive shops will not fool with it and just tell you it is dangerous and will kill you and you should buy their new Whizbang 3000 Super Turbo Breather POS that cannot even begin to hold a candle to the all metal Voit MR12.

You want it rebuilt, learn how to do it yourself.

Good luck.

The Voit Swim Master MR 12 was the first single hose regulator to be accepted by the US Navy.
