Am I being a wimp about these dive plans, or is this how you become a better diver?

Dive shops routinely take OW divers to 130 feet every day that have no business being there. I have watched them dog paddle their way down. Being “a shop” particularly in a tourist location carries exactly no weight in this discussion IMHO. And a diver that has decided to do “cave dives” while uncertified even less.

They do sound like relatively benign dives, but so what. If you are not comfortable doing them why not do a few more dives within your comfort zone first???

Gimme a break, you jumped in, all guns blazing because you thought the big bad man is picking on the defenceless women, at least that’s what you tried to imply.

I jumped in because you were giving STUPID advice. A diver who hasn’t dived in a while and hasn’t gone below 50-something feet is scared about doing a 100ft dive. You tell her to listen to her husband that she’ll be just fine. No way, dude. That’s stupid advice. That’s a trust me dive, which are never a good thing.

I think everything about this that can be said has been said. Just some perspective.....A healthy fear of the "unknown" is normal, as is a little bit of anxiety. It keeps you focused, and that's a good thing! :) I subscribe to the practice that you can call a dive for any reason without question. But, I will say that pushing yourself a little bit to try new things will make you a better diver. Just do it at your own pace, follow your training...........and HAVE FUN! It's supposed to be fun! :)

They’re diving with a shop, a refresher dive and a dive the op is happy with first, she can make her mind up then, it’s only natural to be a bit anxious at first, she doesn’t have to do anything. It’s a hobby. Relax

@Marie13 If she doesn't want to do the dive she could always just stay on the boat......
........and make the men some samiches!!:yeahbaby::poke::rofl3::popcorn:

I know, I know... I'm 12 (but I would also never force my wife to go on a dive either).

Time for a divorce. He is full of it and could potentially kill the both of you. Overhead environments require overhead training. Even so-called safe wrecks have killed people when they got hung up on something or lost. Being led by someone into these has also resulted in dead and missing divers.
It sounds like he has to 150 dive ego thing going with none of the training and common sense to know how dangerous he is to himself and others.
I literally hate these kinds of people who put others at risk with their antics.
His attitude is selfish and cheap.
If something happens, everyone on the dive is going to be affected in a negative way. First responders may be put at risk because he thinks he is invincible.

If it doesn't look like it would be fun to do don't do it.

Your divemaster will assess your abilities on dive #1 and give you recommendations, cautions or encouragement for subsequent dives. The last thing he wants is for you to be in a situation you can't handle.

The precautions and procedures are the same for 40" or 100". I truly believe the 60" restriction is just a way for PADI to make money. It sounds like #3 is a swim through and the biggest danger for a new diver in an escorted swim through is the ribbing you'll take from your fellow divers about the sand cloud you left behind.

Read the opening post. They’re diving with a shop who’s happy with there qualifications. They’re first doing a refresher dive and then a dive that the OP is happy with. Her dive buddy ( husband) said she’ll most likely be okay to do the 2nd and 3rd dive which implies if she’s not that’s fine. “ highly dangerous and irresponsible advice “ get a life.
And shops like this have killed people in the past.

As a PADI OW diver you are only certified to dive to 18 metres or about 60 feet, any deeper and your insurance is probably invalid. I would suggest that you and hubby both do you advanced course as this will start to give you some of the skills and self awareness (particularly for hubby) that will hold you in good stead for future dives
