I'd be more worried about staying warm, doing your open water in late March in Wisconsin.
Pool classes start late March, then we gotta wait for the rest of the ice to melt, then we get to be cold!

I'll be fine though, I am 6'3" and 350, plenty of insulation, getting cold for me even in cold water has never been much of an issue. We do a polar plunge every New Year in Lake Michigan, even if we have to cut a hole!

You’ll learn it in the pool. Then do it in open water. Great skill to give the confidence you can get to the surface in that unlikely event you run out of gas.

Thanks for the encouragement! I'll be getting fitted for my personal mask, snorkel and fins this next week and I'll be taking them to the pool to practice the clearing.
tell us how it went and good luck ! If you have questions reach in to us.

I just can't resist the urge to breath when I hit the 20-25second mark of making the AHHH sound when I practice on land or in the pool
Keep in mind proper way to do CESA is ascending from deep. Which means there is a substantial change in pressure while doing it. Technically speaking aaahhhh is releasing extra pressure instead of true exhaling. You can't duplicate it on land or in a pool. In real life it's easier than it sounds.
