So it seems that apart from Israel, no legal problems. Another good reason not to visit Israel!
(as for whether you like an Air 2 or not, that's opinion, sort or Protestant/Catholic thing, not expecting any consensus there!) For me, it does the business, one less hose and dangly thing, and can always be found easily, but then that's just my opinion, etc.

Actually, Israel/Red Sea is beautiful and a great place to just have fun in the sun. Prices are "hostels" to "luxury hotels". There are so many people, including "rusty" divers, that come to Eilat because it is the most Northern tropical dive spot. They fly in from Netherlands, Ireland, Germany, Great Britain, etc. The Israel Dive Authority set these laws to protect these rusty divers and newbie divers who have the latest equipment, but don't know how to use them. I do think it is a unique situation.

The question was about the illegality of AIR2(3, etc). I'm still wondering if there are other places.

Do you think there's a country that could make jacket BCs illegal? I'd be tempted to make a small political donation.....:D

I know you're just joking around so this isn't really directed at you but at the general attitude I sometimes see on here. Why do people really care what other people dive with?

If I see a guy diving with no tank but a duffle bag full of spare airs then that's his concern, maybe he knows something I don't.

The only 2 set ups I care about are my own and my buddies (if I have one). If I don't like something about his kit (i.e. I think it is un-safe then I don't dive with them-which has yet to happen)

I always enjoy checking out other peoples set ups on the way out to the site. It is interesting to see what people find useful.

When a diver in your group has an accident or incident, your diving may well be over also.

Perhaps, but I don't see what that has to do with anything.

I can point to the guy on the boat with an Air2 and jump and and down and say 'That guy is going to kill someone!' and the boat Cpt will not let him dive...oh wait, no. Maybe I'll be the one not diving because the Cpt assumes I have already had too much Nitrogen for the day.

New plan, I can post about how dangerous 'x' configuration is and those people will read my enlightened comments before getting on the boat. Oh wait, chances are high that at least 3/4 of the people on the boat have never heard of scubaboards or OldNSalty. There goes plan 2.

In the end, I have no control over what other people dive and I wouldn't want it. That was my initial point-Scuba laws are stupid, let people dive what they want.

The AIR3 is sold and used all over Asia. As for me, for past 15 years i dived with a integrated octo (Sherwood)s and loved it. I just took it off for an Octo as i think this is a safer diving set up for me and my buddies. But that is me and the extra hose is no big deal.

Is Isreal specific about the Air2 or any second stage/BC inflator combo? What about no power inflation at all?

You must have an octopus, not a combination second stage/inflater.

I could not imagine anyone not having a power inflater in Israel. All the equipment I have seen is modern standard/models - like you would see here. Beyond that, I could not answer your question - which is a curious one to me. I suppose you could blow up your old horsecollar my mouth, if you wanted. :) But you'd still need an octopus. Just a guess on my part, but I'm laughing as I write this.

By the way, I have never been bothered by the government scuba police (IDA), nor have any of my Israeli Instructor friends. But, there are random checks on shops - things like looking at the equipment, and making sure that your certification card is kept by the dive/air shop while you are diving. Truly - no card, no fill - but they will do a computer (ie PADI, etc) check for those who have misplace theirs.

P.S. No one will let an obviously pregnant woman dive either - my DrDaughter (MD) - who knew better anyway, snorkeled with Mommy while the rest of us went diving!!! Is this the scuba policing you were talking about?

...seriously ??? !!! ......so if some idiot/cheapskate dives crappy/unserviced gear resulting in an accident.....causing the very expensive liveaboard trip to a remote location to have to return to port, wrecking the vacations of a couple dozen fellow divers...and destroying a few hundred thousand $ worth of hard earned dive $... you don't see a problem ?
