Shocking. How much money are they going to lose from people paying to replace the little part of the FMM when they are leaving?
I saw a VERY disgruntled family at the CUN airport that had lost (or thrown away) all of their paperwork. They missed their flight, and then I heard grumblings that it cost them $2k to make it right with Immigration, plus the cost of a new flight. Not sure how true, but either way, glad I have never had to deal with that.

I lost mine once. I had to go to an office elsewhere in the airport to get it replaced. Since then I've kept it in my passport inside a ziplock so it can't go astray.

I'm printing and carrying one just in case.

Yikes. I know they tell you not to lose it, but damn. I don't understand why they would charge such a big fine over a piece of paper. Just because they can?

I'm sure it was the cost of the new plane tickets for the family.

Replacing an FFM card is $589 pesos (about $30 USD) each. The cost for rebooking missed flights is $$$$$. You will pay the cost difference and change fee.

I suspect the 2K was in Peso's or about $100 USD. Last year when there was a crack down on the illegal aliens (expat overstays) and they were pushing for them to convert to semi permanent Visa's ($$$) there were road blocks and boat ramp inspections demanding to see original Passports and FMM cards. No one carries them (regardless of the law) and they backed down and accepted photos of the documents that most folks had on their phones

Yeah, after reading above comments I believe it was either in pesos, or the cost in dollars to switch their flights after not being allowed to board due to the lost FMM. I was merely a casual observer- I had no skin in the game. The CUN airport was PACKED that day, so I am sure they had to wait to get their replacement cards as well.
