NetDoc:
Dang... we needed Arkansas to WIN today! :D

Just be glad Florida doesn't have to play LSU a second time in the SEC Championship game.

Traditionally, the second time NEVER goes well for the team that won first. Beating LSU on the second try would have put us RIGHT IN the final game. It was about the only thing that could have done that.

BREAKING NEWS

Alabama just fired head coach Mike Shula.

Rumors are they have offered Spurrier $3 million for the job.

Edit: Bama has announced it has named defensive coordinator Joe Kines as interim head coach. So Shula won't coach in any bowl game that Bama might go to.

That makes four I-A programs with openings: Miami, Alabama, NC State and Arizona State.

Well just like the "Honk if you sacked Brodie" bumper sticker after the Bama - Auburn game last year, the ones for Shula are out.

BTW.... Bama Athletic Director Mal Moore is having a press conference today at 2pm Central Time about Shula being fired.

ScubaTexan:
This is four coaches since 2000?

  • Mike Dubose 1997 to 2000 - Fired after loss to central Florida & previous bad season.

  • Dennis Franchione 2001 to 2002 - Left for Texas A&M after denying interest in the job.

  • Mike Price - 2003 - Was hired as coach but he never signed his contract and never coached a game. He was fired after Sports Illustrated busted him with strippers and prostitutes in his hotel room in Pensacola. Ironically since he never signed his contract, he got nothing as settlement when he was fired.

  • Mike Shula - Hired in 2003 after Mike Price was fired. Fired yesterday and got $4 million as part of the firing settlement.

One thing to consider. Bear Bryant retired in 1982. 24 years ago. Every coach that has been at Alabama since has had to live up to the name, image, record, everything of the Bear. For most Alabama fans, no coach will ever be good enough because they aren't the "Bear". Any coach that gets hired there has an uphil battle to deal with.

EDIT: Steve Spurrier announced today that he has no intention of going to Alabama. I can't blame him. One of the reasons he wanted out of Florida was the high pressure to win a championship every year. At South Carolina he can take his time to meet his goal of building a championship team.

Georgia has a good quarterback.

. . . 'nuff said
