Un-scientific garage light test scores

Here are my un-scientific garage light test results, you be the judge:

Side by side comparison shows minor differences on the size of the patterns on the head and body, but both lights are exactly the same length.

1. If you had to guess you'd say this is the a) 500 lumen or b) 1000 lumen?

There's no apparent difference to me. If anything the 500 lumen light appears more white, but that may be as a result of my un-scientific test methodology :)
The answer to question 1.- is (a) 500 lumen. Question 2.- is (b) 1000 lumen.

OK so no one has read the origional 500 thread. They came out with the first 500 and then they did a modified run witha longer head and rounded end.
I got the second modified 500 and my 1000 is the same as the 500 except for the label.

The beam is stronger on the 1000. They also used a different silicon on the 1000 so I did not have to clean and relube.

I ordered the 500 originally and it was stopped because it was out of stock and I waited for the 1000. Mike tried to explain all that in emails but I really wasn't following him.

I just got home, and my new 1000 lumen was waiting for me. The first thing I did was compair it to my 500. Both lights are the same lenght, the head of the 1000 has more diamond's while the body on the 500 has more. The biggest difference I noticed is the 1K has three head orings while the 500 has 2. I then went to our storage locker area to do a light test. I have to say the 1K is a little brighter, its a long tight hall and I could tell the difference. Was it twice as bight, no, was it noticable, yes. I'll bring both lights to work tomorrow, put the same box of new battiers in both, and test them with our light meter. After only diving with the 500 both are great lights and I have no intention of sell or sending them back. I've spend a ton more on a lot less of a product.

Mike clearly stated that the 1000 would only be maybe 30% brighter than the 500.

I hope my post didn't sound like I was complaining, I read that and purchased this light expecting what I recieved, a brighter version of a light I owned and really like.

I just got my 1000 lumen light dropped off by UPS.
The first thing I did was tear open the box in total anticipation.
I was very impressed with the look and feel of the light as I took it out.
I read a few comments before about how tight the beam was and that it might not be any good for night diving as a primary. I read this AFTER I ordered mine and it was shipped.
So I was really anxious to turn it on to see just how tight the beam was.
Wowwy wow wow!! what a bright sucker!!!
I am totally impressed! And as far as the beam being too tight, I don't think so at all. I went into the laundry room and into my pitch black garage to test it out and I think it has plenty of spill. I was happy with a UK 400 lumen eLED SL4 that I paid more money for just a few weeks ago, then I saw this and figured 1000 lumens for less money, what the hell.
I compared the two just out of curiosity and the DRIS blows the UK away not only in brightness but also spill. The DRIS 1000 has a softer transition from the hotspot to the halo then the UK.
So the 1000 will be my primary and the UK will be my backup until I buy another 1000.
This is so exactly what I was looking for.

I am totally stoked!!!

I would have guessed the opposite. Well I'm glad I decided that I didn't need to upgrade from my 2 DRIS 500 lumen lights. According to specs, the 500's should have a longer burn time (500s = 400 min, 1000s = 300 min). For the difference in burn time I'll take what may or may not be a little less light. Either way though, both of these lights are great values.
