For Mike_S . . . This is just sitting in an easy chair, in a well-sunlit room. Your lights were not the same?

no.. they were EXACTLY the same length.

That made me wonder "weren't Jax's lights slightly different lengths" when I saw mine were the same.

I can take a picture of them being the same and post it...... but that's all it'll show.

So I'm wondering

a.) do I have a 500 Lumen "internal parts" with a 1000 Lumen etching ?
b.) is there no real difference in the output?
c.) is there some differences in production runs? (some lights longer than others). I think he had that issue with the 500 Lumen lights for example.

I could care less if one light is 1/2" longer than the other. But I would think it would be brighter.... that's all..

---------- Post added ----------

so as a follow up to last night, I got the wife to go outside and do a "2nd unofficial backyard test".

She thinks the 1000 Lumen is slightly brighter, but not much. She said it's mostly a whiter-clearer light.

Still it's a great light and is plenty bright. (and I have no intentions of returning it). They (the 500 and 1000L are brighter than any other light I've got).

OMG Jax, 2 posts in the same day! She is back! Yeah! :D

what? Ban her!

Sorry for the Hijack, but a 1000 Lumen

Take a look at the Riff TL-1500 Yes it means 1500 Lumens

I made a test dive with one yesterday and I'm using a UK lightcanon HID100 normaly, witch gives me a lotof light.
But the HID100 got a shock and went into a crisis on that dive, the TL-1500 was WAY brighter and punched throug the dust and dirt like I've never seen before.
I also had a UK C8 eLed next to me, both, eLed and HID100 looked like... Pff... nothing.

Just got my 1000 lumen light today. Funny thing is my 1000 is actually slightly smaller than my 500, as I got one of the 500's that had extra length.

The 1000 is definitely brighter, the spot is brighter, and there is a lot more light on the "spill". Also the spill area is much more consistent than the 500. In the photo, the 1000 is on the right.

Looking forward to getting the new light wet!

Interesting, my 1000 lumen light is neither of those. If I blow your picture up and count the number of horizontal diamonds on the hand grip my 1000 lumen has the same number as the 500 ( 8) not the 1000 (6).

All four of my 1000 look like his 500 as well.

Well, here is my picture of the 1000 vs 500 (1k on left). My 1k is about 1/16 taller than my 500, picture is at a slight angle. From the pictures posted in this thread it seems that there are different version bodies for each light. The web site says 8" for the 500, mine is 8" if you don't include the metal loop to attach the lanyard. But no dimension for the 1k on it's page.

I will have to wait until dark to do a comparison of the two lights. Currently my 500 has about 1 hour on the batteries and it is pretty hard to tell the difference in output. The 1k spot does seem more defines though.

I also have a 1200 lumen light which is charged between 50-75% right now. And the difference between the 1200 and the 1000 is much bigger than the 1000 vs the 500.

Does anybody know what the CREE part numbers are for the 1000 and the 500?

(sorry for the big picture, I thought it would scale down)

Ok, I noticed something the other day when I got my light last week but it seemed a little paranoid so I didn't post my observations.

When I took it apart, I could see www.brinyte.com printed on the battery terminal side of the PCB. I googled this and found:

BR-DIV01 LED torch - ???????????|???|LED???|??????|CREE???|?????|??????|?????|????|??????|??|???,??

This is the only product on their page that looks somewhat like my light and it says that it's 240 - 500 lumens. Now I imagine this company OEMs all kinds of products not listed on their page per the specs of their customers and theres probably some variance from batch to batch, but since many say my 'other' (not named to avoid the mods ) light is really 500-600 not 1000 and this light doesn't seem brighter and others are reporting different results... I'm just wondering a little.

The link you posted appears to have the head from the small 500 Lumen light in Spg01's picture. Heck it appears to be that exact light.
