Well, I just received the text message that mine has arrived at my Proxy address in NY. She just sent me a picture (since I will not be seeing her (or my new purchase) until June 29th) and wow that is a big light. Placing it on an 8.5" x 11" piece of paper for reference kind of hits home just how big it is.

Care to post the picture? I'm curious about the size.

UPS guy just knocked on my door as well :D :D :D Here's a reference for size:

Having taken the 500 lumen version on 21 dives now, I will say it is really quite a good size. I wouldn't call it "too big". It is just a little longer than my UK SL3 it replaced, and noticeably more stout. Looking forward to the 1000 lumen light arriving this week for its use in daytime dives.

The ones I ordered are replacing my UK SL3 eLED's as well. Here is a pic for everyone else with the two together and a book just to show the size for those that are not familiar with the SL3.

Also, I have a picture to show how nice the SL3 tucks under my arm on my strap and hides away. The DRIS is only about an inch longer. It's not a problem at all and fits on my harness great.

my bad, thought you had gotten sucked in like the rest of us on the 500..... only to have this next piece of candy dangled in our faces (LOL).

No I did not buy one of the 500's but was trying to get a deal on them after the fact. Sadly they are out of stock. NO DEAL FOR YOU!! Another month and my delivery person arrives from NY with my 1000 so we can dive and try it out.

Just seeing this now....sorry. I see others have posted pictures with reference objects. Just as well as mine was texted to me so I would have been challenged to get it posted here.

so got my 1000 Lumen one in.... Every thing worked as expected.

Sized it up next to my 500 Lumen light and they are EXACTLY the same size/length/etc . The only way you could tell them apart was the etched "1000 Lumen" on the side verses the "500 Lumen" on the other one.

The lanyard that came with it was different. but that's of no real concern as 95% of us will replace it with a heavier one or a snapbolt. (or both).

So went outside and gave it the "Official backyard test".

Now I didn't expect the 1000 Lumen one to be 100% brighter than the 500 Lumen I was expecting maybe "30 % brighter".

But I was surprised... it didn't seem brighter ATALL. I was really surprised.

I sat out there switching back and forth shinning at different objects across the yard. Sometimes the 1000 Lumen one seemed "a little brighter" and then it didn't.

kinda weird.

Has anyone else noticed a "big difference in brightness" in "backyard tests"? (or noticed there wasn't a difference?)

Have you tried it with new batteries in both? Not saying the batteries they sent aren't new, but you never know. Mine should be delivered tomorrow.

I too will be getting the 1000 tomorrow and will be able to compare it to the 500. I'll stuff new batteries in both and fire them up.

The 1000 Lumen has brand new batteries in it. First time it was on.

The 500 Lumen is about a month or two old with little usage and only two daytime dives that it was on only to look into cracks.

Seeing how the 1000 had brand new batteries in it and wasn't really brighter than the 500, don't think that was the issue.

just weird. I expected it to be noticeably brighter was all.

For Mike_S . . . This is just sitting in an easy chair, in a well-sunlit room. Your lights were not the same?

Mike, I'm posting this for you, 'cause you're so wonderful! :hugs:

I have not had a chance to dive this yet, but will talk to it in comparison to the DRIS 500.

This twist-on light is of comparable size to the DRIS 500. The light twists on easier than does the 500, and it has a larger knurled segment on which to get a good grip. The head is the same size as the 500, and only the tapered segment from the barrel to the head has been extended. The 1000 is about 1/2 inch longer than the 500.

DRIS has, as usual, been on top of keeping us informed and producing good products. I now have my two cave backup lights. _grin_

Given that the 500 is, in my opinion, too bright for night dives, I reason that the 1000 will wash out everything badly. The 500 did not work for photography, as it caused a hot-spot white-out in pictures, and I assume the 1000 will be worse. I would bring either dive light on a night dive as an emergency signaling device, because it is so bright, but would have a softer, less luminous light for my critter-watcher.

Here is a size comparison of the DRIS 500 and the DRIS 1000:

And here is a shot of the two lights on the ceiling of a very well-lit room:
