HOLY COW>.....

OK, so I have been wondering why I hadn't had anything on this light when I hit USERCP. I figured people just weren't talking about the lights yet as they just got them. Well, thanks to Jax for letting me know this thread was alive. Somehow, I must have unsubscribed from it and had no clue about any of this conversation, as I could have put it all to bed MUCH earlier.

OK, so that being said, I apologize, I wasn't trying to be absent....and I haven't read all the posts yet, but I see a common question that I will answer real quick.

As for the lights, YES, there are different sizes. As someone just said, evolution. Here is how and why you have what you have....

1st 500- Smaller size. People said they would like more of a grip area for turning on the light. Some light heads turned hard, had a couple issues with lights that were caught in our own QC testing before shipping.
2nd Set - Bigger...WHOOOPS- after some of of the "modifications" we asked for, the light came out bigger than we wanted. The problem here, was they made a big run of them...we had to sell thru the bigger size, before we could get back to the original size. If you remember, we put this in the forums, and offered them at a reduced price ;)
1000 introduced - While chatting with the manufacturer, they told me they could make it a 1000 lumen version for not much more money. "REALLY? Send me one" tested, sent to a couple people, tested out pretty nice for only a little more money. We decided to go with the 1000 lumens exclusively. Sold thru OUR inventory of 500s, and had 1000s coming in. Now, remember, the manufacturer still had X amount of the bigger bodies to get rid of and the changes to the 500 are in the light head to make it 1000 lumens....SO, some of the 1000 lumens are at the bigger body
Current 1000 lumen - Back to the smaller size, triple o-ring design, MUCH smoother turning action, MUCH better light....Evolution ;)

Hopefully that helps a bit....I am going to go back thru this thread and try and answer any other questions that come up, but feel free to just re-ask them. The lights have gotten better each time, and this is a current model.

Again, I apologize for being absent, and thank JAX tremendously for letting me know it was a live thread and I see it was unsubscribed somehow. If you guys ever think I am ignoring a thread, PLEASE SOMEONE, send me an email or PM. I hope my track record here is proof that will never happen intentionally! We are here for you all of you and survive due to you. I would never just leave you guys abruptly....

Mike,

Managing the message is critical and the use of the word "evolution" can leave a bitter aftertaste in the customers mouth. I expect the 1000 to be better then the 500 but then theres a 1000 rev1 and 1000 rev2 (but not actually advertised as such) that can burn a little.

I read your last post and you said that the "current 1000" is a smaller, more o-rings, and "much better light". I ordered the 500 and was told it was back ordered and then got the 1000 and now I'm wondering if the current 1000 puts out better light then my 1000.

I'm kind of scratching my head now... not a good place to be as a customer.

Your right...that is one reason that we gave people such a LOW price on 1000s if they wanted to buy a second light from us. I would hope that put a good taste in peoples mouths. As for the 500 to 1000 being better or not? I fully think it is a better light in terms of power output. Some people do, and some people don't see a difference. The 1000 lumens all are the same except the body. The lumens hadn't changed. You were upgraded to a 1000 because 500s weren't going to be made as the 1000 was a better light, for only a little more...hence, what you have. We went and improved the light even more...didn't think that would be a bad thing.

I can understand the feeling of being burned, but let's look at how fast all of this has happened....what 2-3 weeks? I mean come on....I apologize, but we made changes to the lights so fast, and we sold out so fast, my head is still spinning. We did the best we could to get the best product out everytime, and make improvements as I think every company should. Now, most companies make inline changes improving their products all the time...over the course of a year or more. Do they tell everyone everytime? Not always, and it depends on the product. Some inline changes just happen to improve when you can.

All of the lights are badass, even the 500...and at a badass pricepoint! I really hope all of that makes up for some of these slight issues. This light really should be double in price....and would be if we didn't get our hands on it first. Part of this light being such a hit, allowed for faster developement and improvements...hence why it improved so fast.

I hope that helps you get back to a better place as a customer. If anyone wants, I will replace their light with the current version. There should be no head scratching or anything when you make a purchase from us. There is a reason why we ONLY offered discounted prices to those that were early adopters. This was for their understanding, which most have when being an early adopter and our attempt to make sure people feel good about their purchase and know we aren't out to screw them.

I really wouldn't think Evolution would leave a bitter taste...that is how you were upgraded from a 500 to a 1000 chrpai...that is how the lights have been improved. There is nothing wrong with your current light, it isn't going to blow up, remember, you LOVED IT before you knew there was a different model. So don't be upset that improvements happen....Evolution is a good thing! And if anyone is upset about their purchase, I will buy it back from you or replace it with a new 1000 lumen. There are plenty of people that will buy up the older lights, and I don't want you to have a bitter taste in your mouth or not be in a good place as a DRIS customer.

Evolution is usually a much slower process. You expect it in cars and computers and what not. But when it happens to quickly that it goes through several revs while your order is in process it's a little confusing. You know what I mean?

Anyways, it's the LED / Driver that I care about. There was some (subjective) chatter about comparisons of lights and what not that made me a little nervous about whether I was getting all the light that I could get. ( Kind of important in the murk of Lake Travis )

I don't care about body length and 3 vs 2 o-rings so no worries, I'll be holding onto this light. Thanks for clarifying everything.

Your driver and LED are the same as the current 1000 lumen. Only the body changed.

Also, someone had brought up the manufacturer of the light, Yes, they do make a 1000 lumen...people on this board own it ;) LOL.... We didn't just have them change the logos of the light to a higher lumen rating. The 1000 lumen is a different driver than the 500...same LED in both

I look at this light deal similar to buying a computer. I buy the best computer I can afford today and then I stop looking because tomorrow what I bought yesterday will be outdated and will be 1/2 the price I paid. Does it hurt yup but is it progress yup .

Look at the iPhone then the came the iPhone 3 then the 3gs and then the 4 then the 4s and soon I would think will be a 7 or 8. Should I stop using my iphone because they came out with a new one 2 weeks after I bought the current one. Nope it is still what I bought and I got what I paid for . Just stop trying to have the newest greatest one and focus on having what works for you because you will always be behind progress. Unless you make and spend a whole lot of money.

BTW Mike if you come out with a 1500 Ill wait for the 2000 to come out because the 1000 is bright enough that my can light may be staying home

Is there a pic available of the latest smaller version of the 1000? Timtens pic wont enlarge! How much smaller is the body of the latest version of the light Mike, compared to the 2 oring version?

The newest light, is the same as the original 500. The others, are maybe 1/2" longer
Measures 8"s long with the head being 1.5"s wide

Mike,

This is the first purchase I have made from your company. After seeing what has gone on with this, and how this entire situation has been handled, I know it will not be my last. Your company has joined my very short list of my go to companies, not only because I like this product, but I like how you handled it in regards to exchanging/buying back. Class.

James

PS, I will keep the big body double oring lights I have and be happy with all 4 of them.
