    Introducing...

...a new diver...or a bubble watcher. We have plenty of time to figure this one out. Our little dude was born a couple of weeks ago and has brought us amazing joy. He's also kept me on dry land for a while, not to mention off SB, but that's okay. It's all about priorities, and he's...

    Not another DIRf report

If you don’t know what goes on during a DIRf, go ahead and search the board. There are plenty of great detailed reports here. The reason for writing this post is different. I guess it all started with this response from Uncle Pug . A few days later, I’m spending Thanksgiving WE on a...

    Suggestion Saving some bandwidth

The exact same questions keep coming back day after day and the exact same answers each time are given. A few come to mind: How to do a weight check What is a backplate? Which undergarment to use with a drysuit? What's a P-valve? Etc. Why not identify all of these very repetitive...

    A good start

http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercurynews/news/local/states/california/northern_california/7697991.htm I know we may have bigger short term problems, but this seems like really bad news for the future. And I really don't understand why it costs anything to declare an area a no-fish zone.

How Halcyon lost my biz to FredT

I bought a b/p & w from Halcyon earlier this year. This was a great switch that started my journey into the dark side. But that's another discussion. After diving the b/p for a few months, I noticed that the webbing was quickly wearing off. Worst, my wing got punctured in several places (in each...

SI Tech on forearm and Zip Seals

This weekend, I got to dive my FLX50/50 with several changes: 1. New Zip seals, neck and wrists: fully dry and really comfortable. One small minus is the reduced size of the opening for the neck, if you have a big head (I do). 2. New SI Tech valve on inside forearm: I basically went for...

    Favorite SoCal boat

Each time that I try a new boat (and Mo2vation and I have been on a few lately), I keep thinking I would love to have a Zagat guide on dive boats. Food, space, comfort of bunks, quality of air, availability of EAN, speed, crew, captain, dive platform, etc... I love this site but it does not...

Need help with trim and tank

I have a PST E119. I use 10# (2X5) in the ACBs, a 6# SS b/p and a dry suit. On Sunday, for the last dive of the day, I had to switch to a Faber80 (problem with the compressor). I guesstimated 4# more on my belt and jumped in the water. I noticed I was descending a bit faster than with my...

    SI-Tech vs. Apeks

Sorry if this has been discussed before, but the search function doesn't work for a 2 word letter (SI)... Anyway, I'm thinking about replacing the valves on my FLX 50/50. I'm leaning toward a forearm location (not the wrist). I currently have a high profile Apeks on the triceps. Now, I...

    Cingular customers: Beware!

For those of us who are Cingular customers: I recently upgraded my phone. Part of the deal was a $150 mail-in rebate. To get the rebate, you have to send the actual bar code from the packaging box of the new phone. 6 weeks after applying for the rebate, I receive a notice informing me that...

    I hate Malibu!

That's it. I've had it. I'm tired with the 1 foot viz, the surge, the swell, the entry, the exit, the sand, the marine layer, the walk. Last Thursday night, we went out and spent 70 minutes at 20 ft. Granted, I could use a better light than a C4. I got sooooo dizzy with the swell. So, I...

    Oil Rig

Had an incredible time diving "Grace" with The Peace on Wednesday. First time on an oil rig. The first dive was sort of challenging, mainly because of a strong current. It was deep (100ft), bottomless (340ft) and wall-less. Once I got used to these unusual conditions, I had a blast. I had never...

    Nightmare at night

Vacation. Spain. Costa Brava, North Mediterranean coast, August 2003. This is where I have gotten my OW & AOW. In the area, most of the sites are pretty deep. You usually get to 100 ft each time. The dive boats are small with no compressor on board, so each trip is a one-tank dive. Did I...

    A month away

After a month in France and Spain, it feels good to be back. Compared to the 27 dives logged in SoCal in July, I only hit the water 10 times throughout August. Bad cold, dive boat broken. It takes three hours to do a one tank dive in Spain and 2 tank dives were simply not available... The...

    Halcyon webbing wearing out quickly

I've had my B/P (Halcyon) for less than six months and the webbing is already showing some significant wear and tear (at the top of the plate, where the webbing goes in & out). Could I be doing something wrong (it's definitely not too tight or loose)? How often do you guys replace it?
