    BC and equipment Q's

Spectrum is right about not jumping into buying stuff you don't need right away. For a BCD I would just dive each style and maybe a couple of each brand a few times before buying. You are going to have this BC for many years so you should be happy with what you get. As far a photography goes...

    German?

Anyone care to do a charitable translation for me from English to German? Short paragraph. PM if you can help. THANKS!!! :)

Dive Flag Tips / 1st dive

I also use one of those yellow handled H shaped line keepers. With a little practice it can easily be worked with one hand (ascents and descents). I actually don't mind carrying it around on the dive. Absolutely do not clip it off to yourself because of the previously stated "target" reason...

    Sebago Lakes

There is a British aircraft at about 200ft - a bit beyond recreational diving! There was actually quite a feud going on the past couple years about this. A salvage company wanted to retrieve it, but the Brits are saying it should be left in place since the lives of the pilot(s) were lost...

    Cheap Watch for diving

New Reef Gear flooded on second dive at only 25ft. My iron man has been on many dives in the 70-80 ft range with no problems but the battery is dying which is why I was looking (and still am) for a new watch.

    Dive Spots in Maine

Tons of dive sites up and down the coast. For southern Me, Nubble light, Casco Bay, and Lands End off of Bailey's Isle are some of the better spots. Deffinately call a local shop as well.

    Dumb & Dumber

I think I am going to install a new seat in my car similar to the ones in fire trucks that has the slot for their SCBA packs. That way I can gear up at home, practice a few kicks laying on my belly in the garage, then just hop in the car all geared up. Of course I would remove my mask first...

    Turks and Caicos

I have not wrote the trip up yet but will soon. The boat was fantastic. This was my first liveaboard so I have no comparison. Talking with the other guests (most have been on many liveaboards) the concencus is that this was the best boat they have been on. Lots of personal space, great food...

    Turks and Caicos

Recently got back from a week on the Explorer. Wish some of the pics came out better, but I am pretty new at photography and only use a point and shoot. Thought I would post some of the better ones anyway.

    beginning diving middle keys florida?

Looe Key divers out of Big Pine Key (mile marker 25 just a bit further south of Marathon). Great group of people. It is a pontoon boat that only heads out to looe key for a 3 tank dive. Deepest you will get is only about 30' but it is some of the liveliest reef that I have seen in the keys...

    Recreational diving is the Best

Turks on Sat. It'll be a nice change from the cold rain we're having in Maine right now.

    Wetsuit for NE?

I dove the bare arctic full suit/hooded vest for years in NE. Great suit for the price.

    How Cold Do You Go

I call it quits below 45. A guy I work with scallop dives (mind you the season is from Nov-April? here in Maine) and dives wet. Last year he did a dive and at depth it was 24. He said his only problem was he couldn't feel his reg in his mouth anymore so he would take it out and suck his lips...

    MARES Synchro Tech

I had this BC for about 12 dives before I replaced it for bp/wing. Started falling apart in NUMEROUS places. Thing weighed a ton on land and was very boyant in the water. I really hope that the bc riding up on you is the worst of your problems with it. Definately enough D rings on the thing...

    Weights

I agree that he should do a search on weight dropping incidents as some designs are pretty bad. My biggest problem is having that much ditchable weight. Properly weighted, I can't see needing to ditch more than a couple pounds in extreme emergency (and this would be to offset suit compression...

    Weights

Personally I think this is a bad idea. Most weight intergrated bc's are more prone to dropping weight pouches than a weight belt. There are weight harnesses that hold the weight very well (distributes weight to your shoulders as well as your hips when on surface). Another option for staying...

Snatching the primary... a real world poll

I went diving with a club a while back because a lack of dive buddies was a problem for me. I buddied up with someone on shore and we discussed dive plan and did buddy checks. Upon trying to decend, my buddy could not get under. After struggling for 10 min we decided to head back to shore to...

going from 80al to 121 cubic foot steel tank

Another thing, if you are diving wet you may want to think about redundant boyancy (lift bag or something). That is a lot of negative weight if you have wetsuit compression.

going from 80al to 121 cubic foot steel tank

I did the same switch a few years back. I think I ditched 5 or 6 pounds. Not real happy with the tank for most of my dives though. Depending on who I dive with, sometimes I can get 2 dives out of it. If I have a buddy with good gas consumption I am stuck with not enough gas for a second...

    DIR for recreational diving?

This past year was the first time diving my rig in warm waters (keys). I was wondering what reaction I would get from fellow divers and divemasters when they saw it. First morning as I am loading my gear, I see someone else's complete hogarthian rig set up waiting to get wet. Turns out to be...
