First timer Caribbean, where to go

Grenada is a favorite spot of mine. A favorite dive is Moliniere point, and you get to dive your safety stop in the sculpture garden! And even though I've never dived the back side of Sandy Island off Carriacou, the snorkeling on the near side is incredible!

    Hostile hammerhead...

Nobody has mentioned the fishing rod and line in the water off the kayak, which is probably what attracted the Hammer. I've dived with a school of them with KoroSun Sun Dive in Fiji, and never saw aggressive behavior. I think there was maybe a fish on the line, and it probably didn't help when...

    Certification

My husband and I took our advanced open water course immediately following our open water certification. I loved it, but the hubster, not so much. It is a personal preference, and everyone moves forward at their own pace. Also, if you have a good OW instructor that makes you confident and...

    Another DiveOp Recommendation Thread

I was on Grand Cayman for two weeks in late September/early October this year and did all of my diving with Wall to Wall. The boats were fast and not crowded, sometimes left from the Marina, other times from SMB. The guides led for a 20-30 minute portion of the dive, then left you to dive your...

    Night diving and light discipline

Great thread! I recently had a full moon night dive with a guy who dove with a very powerful video light that I swear you could do surgery with! My buddy and I often covered our lights and dove from his ambient light. We were momentarily blinded a couple of times due to that diver's lack of...

    Diving GC 9/28-10/10

Hi! I will be arriving on Grand Cayman 9/27, and able to dive through 10/10:D. I was wondering if there was anyone around that would like to buddy up for some shore dives, maybe some boat dives over those dates. Pm me and let me know! Additionally, I'd like to avoid the pillaging expense of...

    Acrylic or gel fingernails ?

It depends on how much you are in the water. Fungus can develop under acrylic nails. I've had this happen years ago. I've had better luck with gel, but haven't bothered with it in the last year. I'd love a good pedi with gel got the summer!

looking for travel BCD but do not like wing style

I previously owned a back inflate bcd, and understand what the OP is saying. A few years ago, I purchased a Cressi Travelite. I am a huge fan! Dano718, you haven't mentioned what dive conditions you expect to dive in. I wouldn't use my Travelite for cold water diving, as I don't feel...

    Red Sea Liveaboard

I enjoyed diving with Blue O Two when we did their Best of the Red Sea itinerary. Here's the link to their tour options. blue o two The cabin was very comfortable, food decent, and service terrific! Some highlights were seeing huge Napolean Wrasse, Oceanic White Tips, and Hammerheads.

    BCD Help!

I have an Aqualung Pearl with the conventional inflator, and as I've been assisting instructors as I prepared for my instructor exam, I've had a chance to dive it a lot, both in the pool and cold water. It is equally comfortable in both environments. You should be able to find a Pearl without...

    SCUBA Hoods

I prefer to not wear one, if I can get away with it. Last weekend, the water temp was about 48 degrees. So I wore a Lavacore hood, with a beanie over it. I really liked the Lavacore hood because it was soft and not as restrictive as even a 3 m hood. I also wore Lavacore socks, and I never...

    Travel BCD

I have been traveling with my Cressi Travelite for a few years now. I'm extremely happy with how light and compact it is to travel with. As a matter of fact, I like it so much, I bought a second bcd for all the pool work I'm doing! I want to keep that Travelite nice and fresh and away from...

advise for trip to Red Sea in Sept. 2013

Hi! I dove the area you are looking at through BlueOTwo last July. Awesome diving, and great accommodations, and I would highly recommend their operation. We did a week with BlueOTwo, then a combo land/Nile cruise tour. I don't have any insight regarding Dahab. If I were to go to Egypt...

St Thomas/US Virgin Islands / Any Suggestions?

We dove with Aqua Marine out of Bluebeard's Beach Club for a week in December, and they were also top notch. Wolf, Anna, and their staff made us feel like family (in a good way!). Their boats are top notch, gear, too, and a rum punch for the ride back after the last dive didn't hurt either...
