Bye Suunto, been nice knowing you...

So, after diving through two Cobras (one died thanks to me getting some water in the HP opening thanks to not drying the QD well enough) and two D9s (one stolen), not to mention having a spare gauge set, I'm not able to recommend their product. My father has a Cobra2 with a whopping 25 dives on...

incident in January between dive boat & surfer near Kihei Boat Ramp

Hi all, Does anybody have any details on the incident between a dive boat and surfer/surfers near Kihei Boat Ramp earlier this year? I haven't found *any* details online (aside from an anonymous customer that posted a review on a travel website). Basically the story goes that the...

    Great dive at Ulua today

so I was finishing up an open water certification for my sister's boyfriend today at Ulua and we had a decent first dive... I suspect that the cleaner shrimp past the second reef are feeling some hurt from the storm, too... They couldn't get enough of us, venturing more than a foot from their...

Atlantis and their Wrecks - Split from the "Carthaginian from Shore thread"

Has anyone heard this from someone other than Atlantis personnel? I understood that "oceanspace" wasn't available for lease and the only controls that are allowed are mandated and enforced by the USCG. I have heard this very strongly said by several Atlantis employees, so I'm just curious if...

Coroner's jury recommends "face mask" ban

http://www.cbc.ca/story/canada/national/2006/07/01/drowning-inquest.html To me, this sounds like they're saying that masks (like us divers wear) should be banned from all public pools and beaches in New Brunswick. Anybody have any other thoughts on this?

Definition of "confined open water" environment

So, I'm looking through the Discover Scuba Diving ( http://www.padi.com/padi/common/pdfs/kd/course/dsd.pdf ) instructor manual, and notice that Divemasters can do DSD's in a "confined open water" environment, but not "open water". What is the definition of a "confined open water" environment?
