Fundies: Like the idea, but not the equipment requirements?

In the end this post was aimed at folks who felt Fundies was not an option for them due to some of the gear requirements. The point was that a new class, Essentials is now being offered with a different, and less rigid list of gear requirements. So here is a class, offering much of the same...

How Is Puget Sound Diving In The Winter?

I was going to suggest hugs.:dork2: I am a big guy and tend to be minimly effected by the temp, although it is what 28 degrees today? I can't imagine going for a dive right now. I dive a wet suit and it is not the dive that freaks me out today, it is the part where I have to get out. I got...

Shadow Divers: John Chatterton's Interview with ScubaBoard

Mr Chatterton first of all it is a pleasure to have an opportunity to chat with you. I enjoyed the book a great deal, and have now loaned it to my dive buddy. I am a new diver (recently certified) and recovering from a work injury and the resulting surgery and so for a while anyway NO diving...

Keeping in mind that this is BASIC scuba...

because I live in Seattle, and NOT in Tahiti and have wanted to dive my whole life. Thanks to NWGrateful Diver and to Peter Guy for sharing the PNW dive photos. I dive here because I live here, and I got tired of family from other parts of the country (namely an uncle in L.A. with a home in...

Enriched Air v. Advanced Open Water Certifications

seems to me that you should take AOW only when you are truly ready and only from a REALLY good teacher. Some teachers I have heard basically just offer 6 more dives and a deeper dive, that does little to improve skills.

How do I convince my overweight friend that it's ok to dive?

I am 300 pounds and I sive, and wear a wetsuit, and never had to lather up to get mine on. I also bought mine for 160 bucks, and they had larger sizes than mine. So they are available in her size, and there is no need to use detergent.

    Why not BP/W for Beginner?

i did pool sessions in a jacket style back inflate and hated it, and have been doing OW dives in a BP/W and love it. There is no way when I am ready to buy that I will be shopping for a jacket.

OWie my ears are a bit sore and I have my OW dives in a week.

Thanks is there something I can be doing in preparation for next week to make equalizing easier? Like I said Gerry suggested hot shower and massaging those tubes as a way of loosening up things in there. I was able to equalize some under water, but it required that I plug my nose and blow pretty...

OWie my ears are a bit sore and I have my OW dives in a week.

i think his belief was that the eustachian tubes might have built up goo over time in them and that hot steam and massaging them might loosen up the stuff blocking them and allow me to equalize better and thus not have this same problem again. Since next week the plan is to go to 60ft and this...

OWie my ears are a bit sore and I have my OW dives in a week.

So I finished up my pool work on Wed and both Tues and Wed I had a bit of ear discomfort and we were only in a 10ft pool, but did quite a bit of ascending and descending. Today is Thurs and they are still a bit uncomfy, kind of like when one has an ear ache. I have done a fair of amount of...

Ever seen a fat guy struggling to keep his pants up?

well I am not in a bp/w yet, I think it is an OOOOOOOOOOLD Scubapro Nighhawk and it has some fit issues and a broken buckle but since I already own tanks (just have to get them to me from Los Angeles) and I can rely on a rental reg for a little bit, assembling a well fitting bp/w are my next...
