If saliva works for you, go for it.

However, it does not work well for me - never has and never will.
Saliva works OK for me, but not great.

I've tried a bunch of different methods over the years. Always started with a pre-scrub or two. Originally was using toothpaste, which worked fine, but definitely required a good rinsing after. Otherwise the mint flavoring will wake your eyes up.

What I'm using now is 500 psi scrub on new masks and Stream2Sea defog before diving. Doesn't take much defog to prep the mask before diving, and lasts a good while. I only need to defog for the first dive with this.

I also use diluted baby shampoo for aquarium dives. Works pretty well, but I think Stream2Sea works better. At the end of a long dive with baby shampoo, I sometimes do need to clear the mask by lightly flooding it. Never need to do that with Stream2Sea.

Yes, I have the same experience with baby shampoo, after 60mins u/w, it starts to fog and have to flood the mask.

I have always been a spitter, which has generally worked well for me. However on my last trip one of the dive crew sprayed some of his anti-fog spray into my mask while it was on the bench next to me, I think it was diluted baby shampoo. Worked well and I am now a convert.

I have only had one mask that I couldn’t stop fogging up. I think it was an Oceanic Shadow, I tried everything with it, and no matter what I did it would steam up mid-dive. I tried every cleaning tip, and every spray I could find and it made no difference. In the end the mask went in the bin.
That’s what she said

When I buy a new mask, I use a lighter on it. Then, I'll use the commercial mask scrub. I'll repeat until there is no fogging around the edges of the skirt. One or two treatments generally will work on most of the lens but the edges may need a little extra attention.

I'll use toothpaste for several dives then try spit until spit will work 100% of the time. Then I just spit.

After the tonneau on my truck broke when a tree limb fell on it, I didn't want to leave an Action Packer sitting in my open truck bed. All my gear goes in the water with me. I keep my mask in my fin pocket. Ever since I started that practice, I never had defog or baby shampoo when I needed it. I had spit. Sometimes, spit didn't work so well. I found the secret was to burn and scrub the crap out of the mask until spit did the trick.

When I think the mask can use a bit of cleaning, I'll just wash it with anti-microbial/bacteria dishwashing liquid.
Toothpaste? What kind of toothpaste?

LOL! If I can find it in a world of a million choices and fancy additives, just plain Colgate or Crest.

It needs to be grainy so it can remove the film. Can’t just be any ol toothpaste.

Back in the old days, they taught us not to use toothpaste with pumice. Now, Atomic says don't use flames or even adult toothpaste. They say to use children's toothpaste that is both non-abrasive and contains no fluoride crystals. The dive industry can't agree on how to clean a lens. No wonder we argue over everything in the sport. LOL.

Interesting😂

It’s what we use on the boat. they were using it before my time and i’m sure they’ll be using it long after my time.
I just came back from a trip where all diveguides on the boat used dish soap as well and it worked like a charm and never burned when I used it. Go figure. I use, however, whatever is avails - spit, baby shampoo, seadrops, 500psi (or whatever number psi) defogger… It all seem to work well. Last trip defogger stopped working so I re-burned the glass and is all good again..,
