Greetings. I’m scheduled to arrive in Cozumel tomorrow for a week of diving. I understand TS Fiona’s path will be Far East of Cozumel. But will TS Fiona impact currents and visibility on Cozumel dives? Any divers have past experience? I do have ability to postpone trip. Thanks in advance for feedback.

It seems unlikely but you could call the shop you’ll be diving with. ( He types, while soon to land at Turks and Caicos!)

It's likely to become a hurricane soon. The NHC predicts that it will veer to the right and head northward far to the east of Cozumel; if that prediction comes true it won't affect the weather in Cozumel.

Seriously? It looks like a direct hit there Monday or Tuesday.

Current predictions suggest that she won't come within a thousand miles of Cozumel, so she's unlikely to affect your visit. TD Lester on the Pacific coast south of Mexico City is a little closer, but he's breaking up - may flood Acapulco, but not likely to affect your visit. You might get some rain, but not much...

Are you going home to board windows and save your family? If not, then why?

Latest predictions show Fiona veering farther to the east and missing Turks Caicos.

It didn’t miss us, although it’s quite a ways east of Providenciales where the boat is docked. They moved us to a hotel yesterday since securing the boat for the storm leaves little room for guests. The storm should be moving away this evening. Hopefully we can go back tomorrow and get out on Thursday and Friday, although the predicted west winds following the storm might not allow that.

I am a mission-oriented fellow who often forges ahead despite challenges, but I am amazed that you or anyone else flew into that storm intentionally. I would have called the mission from the mainland. Good luck.

Obviously no one was anticipating a storm of this magnitude when we came, neither crew nor guests.

I have actually done worse. I once flew to Cozumel even tho Cat-5 Dean had the island in its cone of hate days before, thinking it'd surely veer off - as if I knew more than the experts. I dived one day, then escaped. I had confirmed reservations that Continental accommodated me with on a special flight they flew empty to Canun just for evacuees like me, but I walked thru a full lobby of people lined back and forth, many who had been there all night. Dean did veer south at the last minute, but escaping was still a good idea. I only wished I had stayed home and filed a trip insurance claim.

Keep your water jugs filled and phone charged.
