TD Lester on the Pacific coast south of Mexico City is a little closer, but he's breaking up - may flood Acapulco, but not likely to affect your visit. You might get some rain, but not much...

I am a mission-oriented fellow who often forges ahead despite challenges, but I am amazed that you or anyone else flew into that storm intentionally. I would have called the mission from the mainland. Good luck.
I have actually done worse. I once flew to Cozumel even tho Cat-5 Dean had the island in its cone of hate days before, thinking it'd surely veer off - as if I knew more than the experts. I dived one day, then escaped. I had confirmed reservations that Continental accommodated me with on a special flight they flew empty to Canun just for evacuees like me, but I walked thru a full lobby of people lined back and forth, many who had been there all night. Dean did veer south at the last minute, but escaping was still a good idea. I only wished I had stayed home and filed a trip insurance claim.
