While I am very convinced about the AW Ultra as a dive computer, I am really not convinced about this case.
- Maybe because I already own a GoPro and the Ultra would be my backup computer.
- Maybe because I find having to hold this case will be very impractical (vs all the available GoPro mounts), especially for a DC.
- Maybe because I tend to replace my phone every year (worst case every other year) - and the phone sizes change all that time. Would be expensive to replace this case as well (over $500 with taxes).

But I guess if someone has no GoPro at all and no DC to begin with… maybe it could make sense.

There are plans to roll out more countries. It’s more like Garmin inreach lite now. My Apple Watch will be upgraded to watchOS 9 soon, and that has a whole bunch of new fitness features that may allow me to avoid upgrading my fitness watch as Watch OS will have caught up in a year or two.
Great… but still not a PLB as was suggested.

Congrats - you are exactly the "conditioned" consumer that these companies hoped to create when they went to the subscription model to get guaranteed income streams...
Yup I could fight it or get the software I want. Guess what you can cry and scream but the subscription model is how things work now.

You can update now. I updated my watch two nights ago.

I’m ok with subscription models for a product that will evolve and add significant new features and improvements over time (like Adobe CC)… but dive computer software does not even remotely fall into that bucket and a subscription for that type of software makes no sense to me!

I think I would prefer to buy something that was designed from the ground up and purpose built to be a dive computer.
I think it's good to keep in mind that many different types of divers read these boards. For someone that dives 2 or 3 times a year in the Florida keys on vacation and is already into the Apple ecosystem this may work very well. Someone doing 300 dives in exotic locations probably not so much.
It is absolutely not a PLB. It's a means of communications that is better than nothing for people that aren't into diving enough to buy a PLB.
If I already own an Iphone (I have the new 14 pro sitting in front of me, came today) and an iWatch, adding this case and getting all of that capability makes sense for a recreational diver. It's kind of the same as jacket vs wing BCD, they both work for some divers.

I have a bp/w, travel abroad and think the Apple Watch dive computer wil be great. But I am only 50 years old.
