First off I have my open water cert I got back in august in South Africa only did about 6 dives. I’m going to Bahamas next week gonna do probably 4-5 dives including tiger beach. I then will have some time in early June to go somewhere for about 10-14 days, I’m considering Cozumel, Rio de Janeiro, or roatan/Honduras. Now my purpose for this last trip is to dove but also have a decent nightlife/party scene and stay at a decent hotel. Not sure if rio has the best diving but I could be wrong. Looking for some suggestions for people that have been to any of these locations. Thanks a bunch!

Cozumel is not really a party destination although they do have some decent bars. I haven't been there, but it is my understanding that Roatan is even more laid-back. Rio has no notable dive sites.

Koh Tao, Thailand is probably what you are looking for if you can deal with the travel.

If not, what about southern Florida? There's several good dive ops in Palm Beach County. Another option would be Provo in the Turks and Caicos.

Mid June ... Scubaboard is doing an "Invasion" trip to Cozumel ... I believe a few spots are left.

I strongly recommend putting off diving with tiger sharks until you have a good deal more experience. I've done some on a trip to Jupiter, Florida; had a really good time, treasure the experience, but would not recommend it for a first shark experience. I worked my way up from reef sharks to sand tiger sharks then over to tiger sharks. Total of 10 dives.
Ought to choose somewhere with easy diving.
Koh Tao is certainly a good suggestion and its next door neighbour of Koh Phangan needs no introduction for the infamous "Full Moon Party". It is quite a trek to get there but 10-14 days should be sufficient.

Well it wouldn’t be my first shark dive. I did two in South Africa and a great white cage dive (I know that doesn’t really count) but I’ve been around plenty sharks in SA and was very comfortable around them.

Appreciate the research on the two destinations!

I saw that! Not sure if it’s gonna line up with the dates I can go though. Still working it out but I think early June will be the only time I can go.

I was thinking about TC actually. Thanks for the advice.

That sounds good, a significant advantage over many people early in their diving. And you may be one of those 'naturals' who readily takes to diving and the acquisition and application of the skills and mental task loading that go with maintaining buoyancy, being mindful of depth/time/gas pressure, keeping up with the guide and group, looking around at the interesting terrain and life, etc...

In Dan's 3rd/4th quarter Alert Diver magazine, there's an article called Don't Bite The Hand That Feeds You (by Gary Rose, M.D., FACS). Hopefully that link will work. In a nutshell, a couple didn't keep up with the group as instructed, the shark feeder professional kept signaling to them, and then nearly lost his hand (and I wonder what function he'll recover).

I'm not saying you need to be a great diver to go on shark feed dives ('cause I'm not), or that I was always where I should be (nope) and knew where the tiger shark was (nope; I recall our guide pointing her out to me).

You may be ready. A lot of people with your dive count wouldn't be, but you're you, not them. Hope you have a great trip.
