I am looking as well and I have come to the conclusion that you can have good or you can have cheap, but not both. It seems like the HF model ($90) will get the job done, it will probably take longer though. There are lab ultrasonics that are amazing but they can be crazy expensive. I have been looking at this model P4831 and would love any commentary on it.

I went through two Chinese ones in three years. When the second one broke right at the 18 month mark, I sprung for a Branson 3800.
Initially, I figured, "for $180, I can replace it IF it breaks..." I was wrong. I ended up spending for two of the cheap ones AND a US made unit.

Caveat emptor

18 months for you might be 18 years for us mortals. Just sayin'

Probably died at about 20 hours of cumulative use. I think it was more the on/off than the total time. They sent me a replacement circuit board, but I haven't had the energy to wire it in. Maybe when I need two ultrasonics - one just warm detergent; the other with phosphoric acid. Probably not this lifetime.

I have have been using an $80 Chinese one for a while. It has never failed to remove grunge.I just don't use it enough to justify an expensive one.

Are you sayin' I'm hard on my toys!? :D
Not in the least, sir - maybe a back-handed complement:). Strictly talking about volume of use in this case, for us amateurs.

You'll know when I'm throwing barbs ... :p (And I freely admit that I am far more interested in using, rather than polishing, my stuff; just to get that out of the way.)
