They moved the Search feature so this was not easy. Here are the most recent posts about Scuba Club.

Oh wow. Thank you.

Closed. Shucks. Since I'm still a couple of weeks out, I'm going to cross my fingers...I've never been to Cozumel before and that is where I'm staying in October, so thought I'd stay at the same place.

Any other recommendations in case they aren't open in a couple of weeks?

You might want to give parameters, are you traveling solo? I think Blue Angel is open (per posts ). It is maybe 1 mile south of town fairly near Scuba Club. Seems like Casa Mexicana was closed last I heard (it’s downtown ). There are super cheap hotels downtown, but I really wouldn’t go too far downscale in middle of pandemic

MinistryofGiraffes stayed at El Presidente, which is probably nicest hotel on island and is right near marina (4ish miles south of downtown ). Probably not worth the money during normal times , but you might check the rates now. Villa Aldora is around 1/2 mile north of downtown , good place if you are diving with Aldora, which is a good dive shop

Doesn’t sound like you are with a group , but there are plenty of houses and nice condos for rent if you are coming with more people.

What’s your budget for the week? And are you solo certified?..can’t recall that bit..

Aldora is open. Diving with them next week....

Do you mean Villa Aldora? Is that affiliated with the Aldora dive center?

One in the same....they use 120 steel for prolong dives! Will be there August 7-16th.

I'm traveling alone. Have my PADI AOW. Honestly haven't thought about a budget. Nothing too fancy. Just clean, preferably includes meals (or breakfast), has an affiliation with a dive shop, a social environment so I can meet people to hang out with to have drinks after diving, safe, would be great if there was shore diving as well as boat diving, nice people....

I’d say the presidente is likely more that you need then. It was great, but I wouldn’t say cheap, although the food was a lot better than I anticipated, it wasn’t cheap either. Bar was very nice but very quiet when I was there. It’s more of an upmarket ‘white Instagram pool daybed’ type of dealio...
It was pretty much the only place open When I landed. There were 2 of us there for the first 3 days.

‘I enjoyed not touching my kit at all during the week and having a due walk around behind me carrying everything. ( he was tipped very well :) ) and I got a lot out of the shore diving to get me up to 5 x dives a day, but without solo cert you may struggle to find a shore dive buddy.

still loved walking out of my room onto the beach and then the 30 steps onto the beat where my kit was all setup and ready though.... and stepping off the boat and falling into the pool... breakfast was 10/10 as well and included...although you can end up spending money like a teenage Arab...especially as they have a really good white wine list...I was regularly walking from bar to restaurant and then room with a bottle of white and by day 4 I had a bottle open in the fridge of every bar and restaurant in the place...

You just described Aldora except for the meals. .we usually stay at the Grand Occidental and dive with ProDive. In fact we are booked there December coming up. ProDive is on site...no shore diving, but I love the beach there.....Free Nitrox and their pier is right there. All inclusive with three pretty good squares a day...three restaurants on site too. Fun place and a fun bar lounge.

check out their web site....Barcelo Group.

plenty of other places too.....this thread will probably go 10 pages and some

I'd like fairly cheap. :) I backpacked Europe for several years when I was in my late teens and early twenties. I'm not into anything fancy.

I think you'd like Blue Angel. Nice hotel, own dive shop on-site, popular cafe, drinks, etc. Or cheaper is available elsewhere. I'm very cheap, like a cheap hotel in town, but not all that social in my old age.
