I think the original people of every country in the world had a life before tourism also...lol
Sure, but while visiting Bali I was in doubt of the negative side effects on the daily living of the people and the nature of Bali not became much larger than the positive developments. Of course it is hard for the people from outside Bali who tried to make a living related to tourism here.

Ye sure bro...expect all the Balinese to give up their opportunities & livelihoods to live like it was 50 years ago,...from the comfort of your money, properties & business

It will depend highly on the customers and the logistics as well. By the way, the original people of Bali had a life before tourism too.

Customers are probably worried about operators cancellation policies and being taken advantage of again in post-chaotic climate. Or if operators are going to put them on guilt trips about keeping their money to give staff a roof and food for their families...Maybe certain dive businesses already tried that??
I'm sure customers don't want BS on their mind whilst going diving

I cannot know whta the people at Bali prefer. But anyway the reality will decide with which situation they will have to cope. I assume, they are ale to do that. Funny that is now becomes about me, at the moment our business are a huge burden only. In many aspects. And the actual valid of our properties is zero as long there are no buyers at all. And the money? Borrowed in the hope for better times to come. We are very rich...but without anything to spend..

I agree with you.
Already for years we had a pay when you check out policy. By the way, we always used our profits (and, stupid enough, more than our profits) only for our 4 schools and several conservation projects. I do not drink, do not smoke and did not visit Europe since 2001. No deposit asked for when people book either. But maybe this crisis is a good time to reconsider how much people are willing to pay for the services they get. Without saying: "yes but the salaries are much lower in this country, so I pay 20% of the price for what I would pay in my own country for my meal". In Indonesia you cannot support a family from the minimum wage. But because of compettition and "what the guests are willing to pay" most business cannot affort to pay many of their staff more. And they can not easily save money for unexpected hard times. Especially not when they last longer than 6 months.

Yes, I understand your good will, it's great what your doing in your immediate surroundings. But business is business, and I'm sure you get your lions share.

The most important thing to me when I go to dive, is that the operator doesn't BS me. When a dive operator BS to me, I know he's only concerned with his own business

Really? And on what evidence do you base that hypothesis? The wave of illness occurred in Mexico after students returned home for the holidays from Europe and other countries. I was not in the US when it happened.

Hi Laurie, I think people are skeptical because in December this particular virus was known only in Wuhan, and even there only just starting, so anything is possible in this big wonderful world, but this is highly highly unlikely. (And of course, it is still unknown as to whether one developes immunity even if one does get it and recover).

Anyway, I am curious as to:

1. When you had adverse reactions to the flu shots in the past did you ask your doctor about it?

2. You take other vaccinations, so why not keep an open, mind about this one, if and when a vaccine is developed?

Myself, I don't get the flu vaccine, but that is because the flu vaccine is highly region/season specific and my travel pattern does not fit that. But I will probably get this covid-19 vaccine depending on what comes out.

Cheers

If you read my post & all my past posts, I NEVER said it was just the flu.
And by the way the flu is far more deadlier than any other coronaviruses in history,...you should really look into that because it is fact

Just a small correction "the flu is far more deadlier than any other coronaviruses in history" implies that influenza is caused by a coronavirus, which it is not. And I think you know that. So just a clarification for the record.

See what terrifying does for the health of vulnerable people

Far less than dying. The people I am referring to would almost certainly die from this.

You referenced Canada’s response. The Public Health body I refer to is British Columbia - not Canada. Our infection rate is one of the lowest in the world despite getting our first ten cases early.

This is not something most people need to be terrified about BUT it is something that needs to be taken seriously. Pretending it is nothing to worry about and going back to normal too soon is a recipe for for a second wave - like the Spanish Flu where the second wave was much more deadly than the first.
