Coronavirus is the flu.
No, it is not. Q&A: Influenza and COVID-19 - similarities and differences
and
Coronaviruses are a group of related RNA viruses that cause diseases in mammals and birds. In humans, these viruses cause respiratory tract infections that can range from mild to lethal. Mild illnesses include some cases of the common cold (which is also caused by other viruses, predominantly rhinoviruses), while more lethal varieties can cause SARS, MERS, and COVID-19. Symptoms in other species vary: in chickens, they cause an upper respiratory tract disease, while in cows and pigs they cause diarrhea. There are as yet no vaccines or antiviral drugs to prevent or treat human coronavirus infections.

LOL, really? I didn't tell you all the symptoms. Also, the town was hit suddenly by this and there were a number of people reporting identical symptoms.
Dec. 2019, and at that time you were living in Wuhan? Sorry, that explains it.

It seems far more likely to me that you and yours were exposed and became infected than Laurie and her neighbours.

Really? And on what evidence do you base that hypothesis? The wave of illness occurred in Mexico after students returned home for the holidays from Europe and other countries. I was not in the US when it happened.

I did get some kind of cold while on liveaboard in late January. I think half of the people on the boat got it. I suspect I got it from sitting next to one of the sick guests during diner time. I didn’t get the fever. Just the dry cough that lasted for a few weeks, but I don’t think it’s COVID-19.

The lesson from that is social distancing!

The lesson from that is social distancing!

We all knew that since 2003 in HK.
Surgical mask is nothing new in clinic, public transport etc etc.

Definitely 100% Covid-19. Or, very little chance of course, one of the hundreds (thousands ?) other viruses or bacteria which give the same signs and symptoms as you described.

I also had a bad flu-like episode around half of February

Thanks, and I believe I've already had Coronavirus

I have many colleagues and friends who were also just as “sure” that they had COVID-19

I'm glad that people are finally starting to speak up and admitting that the cold, flu & covid-19 symptoms are so similar that they can't tell the difference, & that it's not an evil boogie man virus that'll get ya if you leave the safety of your home

No, I was living in Mexico where I maintain a home part-time.
Laurie, if there was a community scale outbreak of Covid-19 in Mexico as early as December 2019, this would be very important scientific news. It would shine a total different light on the pandemic. And it would have huge political consequences for the relation USA - China. But could it have been H1N1 or one of the other flues maybe?
