I haven't dived with a snorkel in a long time, but, I often put one in my boat bag or take one with me just in case there is an unexpected snorkeling opportunity

Rolled up and clipped to BC or clipped in a pocket in case it would be needed on the surface. Take a regular snorkel when traveling to warm water locations in case a snorkel opportunity presents itself. I find snorkel with a purge valve preferable when just snorkeling.

I have a flex snorkel that has flapper to keep water out. Someone (looks at daughters) tossed a weight belt a broke the flapper off. I usually use snorkels for long swims out on shore dives. Coming in, if I have a long swim, I will swim on my back or with th the snorkel. I don’t take them in the water 100% of the time.

I hate having a snorkel on my mask if I'm scuba diving rather than snorkeling. Most snorkels can be pretty easily disassembled and put into a pocket in 3 or 4 pieces. I do that sometimes, depends on the dive.

I've been left (for only a short time) and it really made me reconsider "safety gear" for when I was bobbing around. My story isn't particularly interesting, except that it made me take this sort of thing slightly more seriously.

Still, a snorkel attached to your mask underwater is suckey. I think that would be my last choice.

I also have a roll-up snorkel. It's not great, but I don't think it's nearly as bad as some folks make it out to be. Totally usable, I own one and have used it. I find the disassembled "regular" snorkel as my favorite option. Takes all of 20 seconds and no tools to reassemble.

I have a roll up snorkel that i keep in a pocket. I wear it when teachin OW students and have it available on other dives in case but never seem to need it out of my pocket. since ive started my journey into overhead environments, ive found myself leaving the snorkel in my bag more often than not..

When I was a kid I started snorkeling with one that had a caged ball on the top that kind of sealed it when submerging. After a few bad experiences I cut it off.

I still use a Healthways contour snorkel I bought in the 70's, and wear it on my mask the vast majority of the time. Most of my dives are in the ocean, from shore, and usually with a good swim out, back, or both. The few dives without it deployed, I slip it under the straps of my BFK on my inside right calf. It's worked well for me for a long time, but each to their own.

For scuba, I have the roll up type in my BC pocket. Ive never used it, but I figure I may as well carry it, in case I need it.

I mostly shore dive, with long surface swims, but Im generally on my back, so I dont really have need for the snorkel.

But it is really hard to figure out where to stash one.

Tie a grimloc clip to the mouth piece, clip to a d-ring and stick the other end under the waist strap. Or something. That's how I'd carry mine if I ever took it out of the bag when diving.

It's one of these, comes with fairly wide bore that won't try to suffocate you and splash guard that works -- up to a point of course.
