Understood. I'm probably just showing my sailing background, because some 25-27' sailboats don't quite hit that mark due to not measuring out at enough tonnage. And that boat looks "small" to my sailor eye (which may be inaccurate because powerboats are measured a bit differently). What I don't have is the specs so I can run it through the simplified measurement document (not that it's a big deal at this point; I was just curious).

The NOAA website you use is a little useful, but the uscg psix is good for any vessel in the world that the uscg has ever had contact with, including boardings, marine casualties, inspections, etc. Google "uscg psix" and look up any boat you like.

Thanks for that info. Now maybe I can determine whether the boat with the "patch" is the right or the "wrong" "Get Wet" Maybe others are clear on it, but I'm still not sure - especially given that mike_S's mention of the "patch" occurred right around the same time as the Documented "Get Wet" being confused for the un-documented, sunken one.

Let me correct your post a little. It was patched, but not done properly to the USCG's standard for the inspection. (your post isn't really incorrect, but more of "not completely correct". )

The USCG wanted it properly patched before putting the boat back in water.

(I cut and pasted that section of the report from the USCG's vessel database and posted it in the thread a page or two (or three) back. I think I posted a link as a source/reference also

Please bear with me if I am missing something obvious - or something in the thread. I have gone back and read through it, but it is a bit long and tangled.

The discussion I see in posts #96 (Wookie) and #97 (mike_s) aren't showing me the "patch" data. When I follow the link Wookie posted to the cgmix site (post #96, where he posted a link to the correct, sunken "Get Wet," I get this page:

At the bottom you can search a date range for "Summary of Coast Guard contacts," and I "submitted" the default range, which is 2007-2012. I only seem to have got back one contact, which is the August 2010 "casualty" report. I do see that it says it was last updated December 23, 2011, but I don't see what they updated. I also don't see the "patch" reference.

I'm sure it could be right under my nose and I'm just missing it - if so, could you show it to me or explain where I am going wrong?

Are you referring to the male diver, Amit Rampurkarl, who was also taken to the hospital? Can you (re?) link to the source for that information? I must have missed it.

copperhead has perceived an injustice, and it is difficult for him to filter the facts through logic.

copperhead . . . as a friend of the family, at times like this, your duty is to help them to not turn mountains into molehills. You could help the family, by removing this niggle of irritation, by reiterating what Mike_S said in his post above. Encourage them to simply dispute it, as a "product not received / delivered" . . . The poor soul on the bank phone line doesn't need to hear the whole sordid tale.

Passing on lessons learned . . . . :)

The boat you have listed above in the link is this one. USCG CGMIX PSIX Vessel Details Page
Vessel Name: GET WET
VIN: FL6142DC

It was involved in an decompression accident on 8/10/2010. The accident list its home port as Key Largo. That is the only listed interaction with the coast guard since 2007.

During USCG Vessel Inspection on May 28, 2010 (I think earlier I might have said August by accident), it had these findings.

1.) Accommodation/Occupational Safety, Improper/Lack of Maintenance: Repair boarding ladder hinge must not be able to get finger in pinch point.
2.) Electrical Distribution System (service): Improper InstallationProperly bond all metal parts to a zinc.
3.) Fuel Oil Storage/Transfer System: Improper/Lack of Maintenance - Both fuel tank vent flame screens are clogged and not allowing proper ventilation. Repair or replace vent flame screens. Repair and re-inspect prior to vessel going back into the water
4.) Hull: Improper Installation - Properly plug hole in bottom starboard side of forward engine room. Unapproved fiberglass patch, must be repaired IAW fiberglass repair guidance, or mechanically plugged. Repair must be made and re-inspected prior to vessel going back into water.
5.) Structures: Improper Installation - Provide explanation on how the deck over the fuel tanks are going to be supported. Fuel tanks may not be used to support the deck
6.) Operations/Management - Install all required vessel equipment, lifesaving equipment, etc. Conduct operational test of machinery, and conduct all drills in the presence of a Coast Guard Marine Inspector. Complete satisfactory annual examination




Now... one thing to note.

First, the boat you listed had a marine causilty on 08 Aug 2010.



The second boat shown with the hull patch problem is showing as being "taken out of service" on the same date.

Both boats have different HULL VIN numbers. I find it odd that one "Get Wet" was taken out of service the date that the other one had an accident. Makes me wonder if someone from the USCG "fat fingered" that in on the wrong boat?

The second boat, although shown as out of service on 08 AUG 2010, was boarded in 2011. So I'm assuming it was a mistake. (big assumption.) Dunno. interesting though.


I'm surprised that when it was boarded in 2011, that it wasn't taken out of service. I guess they didn't because, it was being operated as an OUPV because there is no record of the USCG inspecting it before putting back in water as required by the May 2010 failed vessel inspection. Either that or it was an oversight by the boarding team that didn't know the vessel was to be inspected before being put back in the water.

They've never made a mistake like that with me. If I am boarded, the boarding officer has a copy of all of my contacts with them. Coast Guard's contacts go back for the entire history of the boat, not just 5 years.

re reading that I think I thought the 10/8/2010 and the 8/10/2010 were seen as the "same date". same number s yes... but clearly not the same date. Must have mis-read that. :facepalm:
