Personally, I disagree that "Loser" sign should EVER be a signal. If you're paired with anyone that suffers such an affliction, the proper sign -- IMO -- should be a thumb, period. And, as Cave Diver suggested, the "something's wrong". Either way, abort the dive and keep an eye on the buddy that aborted.

Besides, as often as I give that sign to certain football team fans . . . Not good!:shakehead:
I agree that sign sucks but why should someone with slightly low blood sugar abort the dive? They could just as easily have a snack and continue diving. As long as they're cognizant enough to keep that level of awareness there's no reason to believe it would become a problem.

I got that signal wrong and a couple others that I wasn't entirely sure about. I've never actually seen the "how much air" signal used though I suspect it was in my OW book. The okay to surface was one I've never seen anyone use either, though I suspected that's what it was.

Just grab the candy bar out of their pocket and nibble on it while diving?

Yeah, pretty much. It's not like it's that difficult to eat under water. I might recommend a powerbar or something that isn't going to get really gross underwater, but if people can eat on deco stops why not while they're actively diving?

Or, better yet, why not just have an "energy drink" in a camelback or something. Then you wouldn't even have to worry much about getting salt water in your mouth while trying to eat.

When I clicked on the link it said I got 0% right :(

Gave it another try and got 14/15. Never seen the "Low Blood Sugar" sign before

If someone is slightly low on sugar, then s/he should have their snack and keep going . . . if it is worth reporting to your buddy, then it's a problem and the dive should be aborted. Just wave the snack in their face if you need to stop. I can say this, I am hypoglycemic.

Someone mentioned that Padi taught it that way. I learned a circle scribed on the palm, the same orientation as the quiz picture, in NAUI OW. I've seen it as "present the palm, tap on the palm". They all work to say "how's your air"?

Add me to the :lotsalove: group...I missed that one too

yep never heard of it either

The "okay at surface" can also be one hand fingertips to the top of the head -- I was taught both through NAUI.
