Anybody have any imput on an economical roller duffel bag to bring on a plane. I have been looking at the Deep See travelok 750. I need room for 1 tropical set of gear and 1snorkel set up for my wife. I've bee using a regular suitcase but had a wheel blowout last year after 9 years of use. I'm thinking that a roller dufflel bag would be much lighter to carry. Any thoughts?

See them regularly in Vinnies excellent condition 10-25 bucks. Wrap mine with duct tape in case the zip bursts, and so I can find it on the carousel. Have a stainless mesh over security bag that I never use.

When you say, "bring on a plane," do you mean as carry-on baggage? That would be a pretty small duffel. If you're looking for a bag to check in, this bag by High Sierra is cheap ($60), sturdy, and conforms with airline checked baggage size limits. I used two of them for years--you can tear them if you insist on swinging them around by the end handle (sewn into the fabric) while fully packed with 20 kgs of gear, as I did. Even so, they held up for quite a while under that kind of abuse. The LLBean duffel works well too--it is probably sturdier, actually--but costs $90. I prefer regular suitcases these days, mostly because they are easier to lug through airports (4 wheels), but these served me well.

We picked up an Eddy Bauer roller duffel at an outlet store for something like $60 and it seems to work quite well. With the new weight restrictions its light weight is a big plus. We gave up on travelling with "dive" bags some years ago. I do put an extra strap around it just in case the plastic zippers blow out, but we got tired of airlines destroying expensive bags about as easily as the cheap ones.

Good point. This is another reason I have abandoned my duffels--in addition to being a little unwieldy, especially when lugging two, they were heavier than my current suitcase. But they were also considerably cheaper.

I would prefer a roller backpack as a roller duffles don't carry as well from land to the boat n vice-versa.

My travel diving luggage setup is:

Stahlsac W421-B The Jamaican Smuggler

Stahlsac M520-B Adventure Deluxe Daypac
Stahlsac WD14 Panama Mesh Backpack
Akona Dry Stuff Sack (AKB774)

But you can also consider

Pinnacle Endeavor Roller Bag
or the complete system
Pinnacle Matrix Travel System

I still prefer the stahlsac cus it looks a lot less conspicuous n is less likely to get pinched.

I break out the mesh back pack n dry bag when I get to the hotel n use them pretty much every day of the trip :D

My bad,

I always thought the Stahlsac W421-B The Jamaican Smuggler came with back straps cus mine came with them. I only found out after reading more posts that it doesn't and the previous owner added back straps to it by ripping out old back pack straps and sewed them on it : (
