I learnt that I panic when on the surface too long. Once in the water I need to get under it fairly quickly rather than hanging around. I hope as a new diver this is not going to be an on going problem.

Not a whole lot.

My last dive was in a drysuit in water that was about 45 degrees or so. Although I originally certified in a drysuit, and this was drysuit dive #20 or so for me, this was my "drysuit specialty #2 dive". It was not too eventful - just some finning around. At the end of the dive, for the cert requirements, I had to disconnect and reconnect my drysuit hose. What I learned was reconnecting it was a real pain in the ass, probably because of how it is routed. I had to try to connect and reconnect with my right hand. I think I am going to change my configuration so that I can do it with my left hand. This wil require me to change the orientation of the connector on the valve. I believe I can do that - I guess we will find out :)

I learned not to forget to spray Afrin up my nose before any dive.

You said it! I don't normally take any medicine but when diving Afrin makes a huge difference for me. For anyone new to using it just be aware that you can only use it for a short period of time - do not over do it  ! . I use half the recommended dose just before diving and it works great to keep my ears clear.

About a month ago. I got a great deal on it on EBAY....."Buy it Now" price of $37.50. Not too bad eh?

When did Canada get its own ocean?

If you "have" to spray Afrin to go diving, you might want to reconsider diving...or perhaps get better at equalization technique.

Being a newbie, I get to learn a lot every time out!

My buddy's blind spot is not where mine is, so we see each other when he's a foot above at 2 or 10 o'clock but not the reverse. And when he's spinning in place, he's probably not just admiring the scenery -- he can't see me though I'm a foot away.

When in a 5 mm suit and hood, I can keep feeling warm enough while my naked hands lose strength and dex without me noticing. Can't be having that!

My trim is a lot better with a hood on (and that solution is more comfortable than putting change in my boots). Hey! Quit laughing at me, it was just an experiment! :)

It's hard to judge underwater swim distances, and I need to get better at tracking my compass to help keep my sense of direction.

Fin straps can catch in buoy lines at the buckle.

... and that a pumpkin is VERY bouyant
... and fish love pumpkin meat but apparently not seeds
