And, to me, trying to compare snow storms with tropical systems & the ability to call school off at the last minute is the same as comparing apples to oranges. Tropical systems are just too unpredictable & ,where as snow storms can cause inconviences, tropical systems can literally change lives.

Great point and completely accurate- tropical systems do- as in hurricanes. The summer of Charley certainly changed my life. Fay never was, is, or will be (according to the NHC) a hurricane.

On the other hand, my mail carrier just showed, so some of my faith in local services has been restored.

I'm glad to hear that. Enjoy the rest of your day & maybe we'll catch ya up at Venice somday.

I'm booked to go on a boat in wpb area on fri & sat -- I know you can't see into the future, but based on past storms of this type do any of the locals have an opinion of whether I should still bother going? thanks

It's going to depend I think how badly the Keys were were churned up. Current will pull the stuff North. I would say Saturday will be fine. I am planning on going out Friday.

Been raining on me all day. Woke up in a rainband at home near downtown Orlando. Drove to Celebration for work. Alternating rain / gloom all day. Only unpleasant bit was driving down I-4 to come home. Some sudden gusts that tried to push my truck around, lots of water on the highway to make things slippery, and some patches of heavy rain that basically left me driving blind. But otherwise, meh.

At my place, at least, it's actually milder than the storms we had a few weeks ago. I moved my plants out to get some water.

Looks like the worst of it shifted south, pounding my friends down in Melbourne instead.

Anyway, hope everybody's stayin' safe out there. =)

Yup! We're getting some much needed rain in Melbourne. We just got done unclogging the drain at the end of the street. I was hip deep in water by the drain. We also had to pull ScubaKat11's car (Yes Jenny! She's been driving for a year.) into the driveway, because the water was about an inch below the door.

I sure hope Lake Denton fills back up... looks like the eye went just over Avon Park.

I hope Lake O benefits.
I just did some landscape work in the yard so I am pleased with the rain.
An 8-10" deep fountain I put out there filled up and is overflowing from the rain.

It's rained almost 6" in Melbourne Beach and there are no signs of it ending any time soon. It looks like FL will be stuck with her for a couple more days.....

Of course, now we can watch this.

It's really intense here in Cocoa Beach...the rain is relentless and the winds 40 to 50mph constant
