Like my hallowed (now retired) BWODs, I just love trying out gear that others hate. Especially when there seems to be absolutely no basis to their hatred!

Who said anything about hate? I don't know enough about them to form that much of a feeling....... but I've never been much of a "gadget" person, and that's how these come over to me as a first impression.

There's no hatred...... just little interest.

As I said - maybe they work for some....and I've already noted with interest that they aren't apparently as heavy as the visual would seem to suggest.

It's only opinions though. and probably says more to the presentation of a product than the product itself.

I'm quite surprised you seem to be such a fan, as I didn't see that you'd actually tried them either!

Anyway.....as I mostly dive from boats these days I've just bought a pair of Avanti Planas. Full foot, really light, no more cramps....... just what I needed.

It's like a Frog Fish, Walter. They are obvious to some and there are others who have no clue that they are photographing one by accident.

Me? I don't like needless bashing of products, services or agencies in general. Its a negative way of approaching life and diving. I know that some people get off on that: finding the fly in the ointment as it were and I am sure that there are studies about such behavior in general. So, when someone just blasts something or someone on the Forum, I often will not only look to see what the brouhaha is all about, but I also contact the entity of interest to give us their side of the story.

At least here we have three divers who have actually USED the fins, and none of them has a negative thing to say about them. I remember the first time I used a 7 foot hose. I was told by most everyone that it wasn't necessary... but then your brother needed air and was below me with a few bodies in between. You and I both found out how the naysayers were wrong on that day.

Actually I'm sorry for opening a bucket of worms wiith this thread!!! IMHO there was needless product bashing going on here by mostly people who had no first hand knowedge of this product. It just proves the saying..."opinions...are like a-holes,,, everyone has one and the majority, stink"!!! In the future I will ask for first hand info when seeking info...I'm ordering a set asap. I thank all who gave first hand, usefull information...and pictures. It seems to me the only reason they are not more popular is the cost. Cost is way down on my list when factoring my choice as although I'm not independly wealthy, I've learned you get what you pay for. The lifetime warrintiee was the swaying factor in my choice. When i bought my drysuit ,zip seals were a major factor in my choice. $3000.00 later I had a flex 50/50 custom, with a halicon pee valve and some super undies to boot. BTW...does anyone have a site where they are asking less then $229.95???Later....

Wondering the same thing myself.

I will however point out something most people don't really grasp: The opposite of love is not HATE. The opposite of love is APATHY.

There's a story about a relatively known artist who had occasion to run into a top art critic in person one day. The artist was compelled to ask him "What do you think of my work?"

The critic's response: "I don't."

When I talked to them at last year's DEMA Show they were already working on that very idea!

It's not a compliment, but it's not a condemnation either. There very well may be a use for the fin (assuming it works well - I haven't tried them) with folks like you, who have flexibility issues. OTOH, the fin itself is still the most important issue. If the fin works well in the water, then you might want to start using it. OTOH, if it doesn't work well in the water, the flip up aspect is merely a worthless gimmick. For folks without a physical limitation, it is a solution in search of a problem. The ads I've seen do not seem to be aimed at folks with flexibility issues, but instead seem to be focused on convenience for the able bodied. They also don't seem to be focused at all on how well the fin works in the water.

If they catered to the impaired it would severely cut into their consumer base. their ad strategy is great, Those with disabilities see their freedom back and those without see something easy to use.
