It does to me too - a lot of Everest expeditions in general feel that way. More like a bucket list thing for the very wealthy. Another side is, this is how advances in environmental physiology are made. Whether it feels like cheating or not, it's quite an accomplishment for a group of non-Sherpas who live at a relatively low altitude.
Agree it's a great achievement. Note that the group are ex UK SF, probably Royal Marine Commando or SAS Mountain and Arctic Warfare Group. If it makes mountaineering safer, it's a good thing. However, it does not make it easier. Mountain climbing at the Everest level above 24.000 ft is extremely hard work. Over 300 climbers have perished over the years on Everest. Some of them are still up there.
