xDeep BLACK - bottom timer / computer features. Sold beginning Friday, July 26th !

I received my new xDeep Black Nitrox a couple of days ago from Dive Right in Scuba. It came securely packed, no issues with the condition, contents or anything. I charged it fully, read the manual, adjusted some of the settings, put a Zagg Invisible Shield on it, and updated the firmware, all very simple. The screen is set in quite a bit to protect it, and it is replaceable, but I'd rather give it extra protection. I got the hang of the use of the two buttons very quickly, and already know where everything is. All went smoothly, it looks fantastic, and functions exactly the way I expected based on the videos.

I used it in the pool today and it was the talk of anyone close by. Everyone loved it and thought the small size, features and OLED display were awesome. As soon as the computer got wet, it turned on. As I jumped into the pool and my hand was sideways, my buddy thought I was wearing my computer upside down. I showed her that it wasn't upside down, the screen flips so a buddy can see it easily, and she loved that feature also. The display was very easy to read, easy to tell what number was what, and there were options as to how much to display, in what order, colours, etc. We were working on being completely still while in trim, as well as on the basic 5, and I found the depth indicator very precise and responsive. The vertical speed indicator was very helpful too, and we both watched it easily as we practiced ascending as slowly as possible.

I'm going to try the Black in the St Lawrence river next weekend, and I'm sure I'm going to continue to love it. So far so good! Thanks to Mike for patiently answering my questions about the Black and responding promptly and pleasantly to my emails, sometimes in the middle of the night. It was worth the wait!

Which Zagg size did you use? Do you just cut a iPhone sheet to fit? I've never used Zagg before.

Short Answer: any Zagg Invisible Shield in High Definition cut to fit.

Long Answer:

Someone earlier in this thread had recommended the Zagg Invisible Shield in High Definition for an ipod Nano, but I couldn't find one around here in high def, only original. The Zagg website shows them for $19.99. However, I found the iPod Touch 5th Generation in HD for $14.99 (CDN), so I got that. Either way, it has to be cut to fit.

The Invisible Shield was super easy to use, and you can get 3 out of one shield. I had never used one before either. First, I cut one edge right above the pre-cut hole in the iPod shield. I figured I would eye-ball one and if it didn't work out, I had 2 more chances. It was really easy to cut it straight because the Black screen is so tiny, it's one cut in each direction. I placed the shield over the Black screen and picked the next side to cut, and then rounded the corners. It worked in one shot, no issues at all. There are logos on the transparent back of the screen protector, so there was a visual reference as to where to cut.

I'm going to keep the template from the backing, in case I ever need to replace it or someone else around here needs it.

The instructions to apply it were very simply laid out. It contained a spray to coat both sides of the shield and your fingers, to prevent fingerprints; a squeegee to press the bubbles out; and a small lint-free cloth to blot the solution. It worked perfectly and there were immediately no bubbles. It says if there are still bubbles, they will disappear over the next couple of days. It also said not to turn on the electronics for 12 - 24 hours, but since I was diving the next day, it was closer to the former. The Black is made for water anyway, so wet electronics shouldn't be an issue. Hopefully adhesion is not an issue. So far so good.

I just realized the installation squeegee could be used as a template. It's the same size on 2 sides, even the rounded corner fits perfectly over the Black screen. The squeegee's longer though, so you could use two sides, flip it, and do the other 2 sides (minus the extra length).

It is exactly like that. If there were a three-month wait for a Mercedes in the US.

I dove with the computer yesterday, and the one issue I still see is the water temp readings being way off (low). My instructor is experiencing the same issue as well. The latest firmware installed.

Is there anyone else who is experiencing the same issue?

Yes.
It's already fixed in next firmware update ( I got no idea when it will be available). They all use Celsius in Europe and didn't notice this "error".
