Thanks for your responses guys, I appreciate it. I was really excited when I saw this club formed because I always had to go down to the dive boats alone all the time. Sometimes I felt like the odd man out not knowing anyone on the boats. I know it's hard for people to plan ahead, but if you wait till the week of most of these trips are full. I usually book at least a month in advance and I usually book 2 trips at a time because almost half of NJ wreck dives get cancelled due to weather.

Dutch Springs is a great place to train and try out new equipment, but is far too tame for my diving tastes. I love the adventure of the wrecks and the excitement of the sea. I hope there are some members that share my zeal for the atlantic and come with me this summer when I answer the call of the deep...

.. a lot of people say that... but I've seen how some of them dive in the ocean, and I beg to differ... they could use lots and lots more hours underwater spent at Dutch Springs.. Sometimes I wonder if that's tjust an ego thing or perhaps all they want is to spearfish or get bugs...

Marcos,

I'll definitely be up for some boat dives later in the year. I'm picking up my AOW in 2 weeks, so I will look to go after that. Like others, my schedule is hectic over the summer months, so planning way ahead is difficult. I might be able to do the dive on the 20th, but I won't be able to know for sure until mid-may (when I find out what dates my grad classes have projects and exams). More than likely, though, you wont have a really hard time getting someone from this group to dive with you!

Frank

Let me know as soon as you can about the 6/20 dive Frank. The dive boat is the Spring Tide owned by Northeast Scuba Supply. The boat is in Brielle, NJ and they only take 6 divers on the boat so the spots will fill up quick. I look forward to hearing from you.

I am attempting to find a dive buddy for local diving which is the purpose of Wreck Valley Divers. I don't care about your biased opinion nor appreciate your negative comments about my diving skills or accusing me of having an ego because I enjoy diving in the ocean. Our club and this forum is to be used for finding local divers to go diving with. Your entire statement had nothing to do with our club's purpose nor did it address the nature of my posts. Your post was neither constructive nor appropriate and comments like that really don't belong in our club. I'm on here to network and find people to go diving with. If you don't want to go diving with me then don't respond to my posts. Before you get all pumped up for your next message you should know that I'm not going to answer your response or anymore of your negative comments/opinions which are detrimental to our scuba club. Thank you.

Marcos, I just reread my post and I can see how it may seem offensive.. My apologies, I did not direct it towards you in anyway, nor have I had nay intentions to insult your diving abilities. It's just that I put two different (I guess not exactly related either) thoughts in to one sentence... what I meant to say is that it's really is not a bad idea to come and meet at Dutch Springs first, and then go diving in the ocean. Again, I don’t mean to direct it towards you, but what I tried to say is that I have met a lot of people who condemn Dutch Springs as being too easy for them, yet when I do see them in the ocean, sometimes I wonder if they could use a few practice dives at Dutch before venturing in the open ocean. If I offended you, for that I am sorry, that was not my intentions., I am really trying to be as humble as possible, and quite often ran into people with big egos, and your post just reminded me of some egos I have met in the past that make themselves bigger than what they really are.

vt, that's a good point.

a dive boat is usually not the best place to meet a new buddy for the first time.
possible but, judging from the countless posts out there, risky.
i dive with a lot of different people, but i am very familiar with their abilities.
(most of which i met through this club. and not overnight, i must add.)

marcos, we do usually like to meet new members at dutch
or some other quasi-controlled environment, for obvious reasons.

I guess I hear where you guys are coming from, but I hope you see my point as well. I might be up at Dutch next month to try out a new backplate/wing setup I'm going to purchase. Hopefully I can hook up with some of you then. Other then that my local diving focus will remain on NJ wreck diving. I can't justify spending a free weekend at a quarry to prove myself to people so I can get their stamp of approval when in all reality they'll never come and dive with my in the Atlantic anyway. I know there are a lot of local divers who mostly dive at Dutch and rarely if ever get on a NJ dive boat. Some don't like boats, some don't like the ocean, some get seasick. I really don't understand what the attaction is to Dutch after you've seen everything there is to see there. To each his own.

Cheers,

Marc

so I guess you've explored the old road bed along the south wall, seen unmarked (on the map) two cars to the east of the dynamite shack, and two cars and two vans to the west, been to the hole (108ft), know how many telephone poles are still standing with cables going down, etc... My point is that there is more to Dutch than a Helicopter. Yes, you will never get seasick and there are never any currents, but it's still a great way to train and checkout new gear.

I'll be happy to meet you there and show you how to rig your backplate/wing if you need help with it. in my humble opinion, it is better to get it right first at DS than struggle with it on the boat. By no means would you need a stamp of approval from anybody. You're free to dive anywhere and anyway you want,.. Dutch is not "THE" only place we dive, but you can almost always find people form the club there. ..it's also a whole lot cheaper than boats (damn, I can't afford going on a boat every weekend), but with Dutch, I paid $120 for the whole season. that's like less than $4 a dive. And you'll never get blown out form Dutch Springs (well, except last December, we we got the boot due to the snow storm).
