I guess we'll have to roll out a similar welcome next time Leah posts in the DIR forum...

Do are review of my posts in that forum--they are on topic and ask questions about DIR--ALL OF MY POSTS IN THE DIR FORUM ARE DIR RELATED

PLEASE TELL ME HOW YOUR POSTS IN THIS FORUM RELATE TO THE VIEWS OF WOMEN?

Actually I feel that if you look at ones advertising you are wasting your time and energy most, if not all, advertisements spin only the positive of a product. this may sell lots of product, but I like to know how a product is going to function. When I buy dive gear I may flip through a catalog and say "ohh thats kinda neato" But that alone is not enough to make me buy something. Nor is looking at an ad and it screaming SEXIST or RACIST. Why should I care if the spokes person is a guy or gal, naked or clothed? How does that make there product better or worse than another product? It doesn't it just means there ad company sucks. . . If we look back over this thread we read about how when the person who has he most at stake on the site was contacted and the pictures in question were pulled down. . . Have you called Salvo? Have you e-mailed them? If so what was there response? and more importantly since you are so up in arms about it would you buy from them?

And of all the things to express moral outrage over we get a 12 page thread over a naked woman wearing a backplate??

If you really find it so offensive, don't look at it. I would also suggest you re-evaluate where you spend your moral "energy". I don't see many people expressing this kind of indignation over America's forgotten homeless, the AIDS crisis in Africa, the working conditions in China or the wars going on all over the world right now.

Boycott Salvo for showing a naked woman. Don't bother with the countless companies exploiting overseas workers. Don't lift a finger to protest the dying of an entire continent. Don't worry about the hundreds of thousands of people dying in unjust wars.

We all have to pick our fights I guess.

First of all, it was not just a picture of woman in a back plate. It was a certain type of a picture of woman in a back plate (for those who missed seeing it).

Second, I would really appreciate if you did not evaluate where I put my “moral energy” (if that is the word you use). You might not see many people expressing indignation or even INTEREST in bigger issues in the world but, please do not make between-the-line accusation that “prudes like me” waste our time in worthless issues instead of worthy causes. You do not know what I do. Also, if you call this moral outrage, you have not seen much of rage displayed in your life I think.

I have no intention of boycotting anyone for one silly mistake – I could not purchase anything if I created that kind of sensitivity about every issue. I am discussing if Salvo is the kind of company I would be comfortable dealing with as a woman. I would not have called Salvo to complain about something like this - what if I got some snickering idiot like ****** to tell me I was a hysterical prude who hasn't had enough sex when I called? How was I to know? Eh, I don't enjoy those kinds of conversations, thank you. I would not have even enjoyed hearing "so what" -response.

Some people here have contributed to this discussion. Most people in this thread not. Surprising amount of people have directly attacked not only the woman in the picture who is not the topic of discussion (well unless we find out she posted her own pictures!) or me or people who take into account what kind of companies we buy stuff from. You take it a little further than needed generalizing this into total ridiculousness. So someone who pay attentions to women’s issues on small scale somehow will not “bother with the countless companies exploiting overseas workers. Don't lift a finger to protest the dying of an entire continent. Don't worry about the hundreds of thousands of people dying in unjust wars.” Manly "Wow" to that.

Thanks Andy and Leah for standing the ground. And will you people stop putting Leah down next - although I am quite sure she can put up a good fight

My beef here is that a woman in the women's forum asked for the opinions of women and get flamed page after page for asking the question of how this affects their buying decision and page after page of men post and say you are a prude and a woman's body is beautiful.--This does nothing to answer how such marketing affects the buying decisions of women.

And no, if they continued with such ads, I would not purchase from them. There is more than one excellent choice on the market today. I looked at Hammer Head plates and decided to go with someone else. Same thing with an LDS that I thought was a little sexist and gave poor service--spent my money elsewhere--in this day and age customer have lots of choices of where to spend money that we really don't have to spend in the first place.

I do think if it was a naked guy the response from the men would be different. Take for instance the diet Coke break commercial from a few years ago. Bell rings and women say it is diet Coke break time, rush to the window and look out at a construction worker dude that is built very well, he takes off his shirt and drinks a diet Coke in the hot sun. There was so much out rage over this "sexist "ommericial from men that Coke pulled the ad.

What was Leah's response to the OP?

Considering you have 17 posts in this thread (and lead), what is your contribution to this thread?

Well thank you and it is good to have both of you in the WOMEN'S VIEW FORUM--and to everyone else you has joined us--WELCOME TO THE WOMEN'S VIEW FORUM!!:10: :10: :10:

By the way for the record, I am a woman, I work with almost all men--many of them homeless and most on drugs--I find jobs for them and help them when no one else will. I meet them at the my office at 6am every morning and make coffee for them each morning and pay for all supplies at my own exspense. I serve the coffee to them. I just picked up one of them from the hospital and helped him home and took him to get his meds. I get to know them personally and take time to find out what they are going through and what will really help them. I just purchased at my own cost a wheel chair, transfer bench and walker for one of the men who has sick wife and had been having trouble bathing her and helping her get around. I carry a tow rope in my truck and several times a month tow people that have broken down out of the road. I volunteer with social services for kids in foster care. I am currently helping with a group that brings Russian orphans over here to get prosthetic devices and possibly finds permanent homes for the kids. When we lost power for a week, I was the neighbor giving help and passing out battery lanterns and kerosene heaters to folks who had not prepared. I repair cars for single mothers and do the work and pay for the parts myself. I rescue animals and I could go on for hours about how I try to make a difference in my community, I do endeavor to make a difference in my community, but that is not what this thread is about--it is about how a company's image affects the buying habits of customers and in this case women.

I feel sorry for people that are so easily offended, life must be hell with so much "bad" stuff out there to make them stress, bet you don't like eating at hooters do ya? :)

For the men posting in the womens forum to deny men access in posting in the womens forum would be sexual discrimination.

As for Coke pulling the add, of course, there are men out there with the same attitude as women toward being offended by the human body, just read this thread and you'll see that, I saw the coke commercial and said pfft whatever and life goes on and I didn't stress, I really didn't care.

I asked my wife about this thread and some of the other "sexist" ads, guess what, she doesn't give a rats ***** cause she knows its "advertising" the naked woman doesn't come with the plate so relax.

As for if it was a naked dude in the harness, well I just wouldn't buy any harnesses from them but yea I'd still buy Salvo :)
