A female diver was found safe after triggering a major search operation when she went missing at Cyprus’s Zenobia shipwreck site on Saturday, authorities said.
The Joint Rescue Coordination Center (JRCC) Larnaca launched a comprehensive search operation at 1:30 p.m. after receiving reports of the missing diver at the popular diving site.
The response included two port and maritime police speedboats, a police aviation unit helicopter, and two lifeguard teams from the Larnaca District Administration, the JRCC said in a statement.
The passenger vessel “Atlantis” also participated in the search efforts.
The diver was found in good health, and she was immediately transported to shore and handed over to an ambulance service for precautionary medical checks.
The Zenobia wreck, which sank in 1980, is a major diving attraction off Cyprus’s southern coast, drawing thousands of diving enthusiasts annually.
