How do you wind up dsmb/ lift bag line on a deco ascent from depth

From your description, you will tie a double ender to the line to give it weight, hold onto the spool as you ascend up the next stop, and then reel up the line you used to ascend 10ft (up to the double ender) plus the original 10ft of line.

This method has the distinction of requiring more skill and being sloppier/more dangerous than just reeling up the spool directly and using a double ender to lock the line when you need to stop. As others have stated, you can use the spool to assist with ascent speed and buoyancy control--line too loose means you may be ascending too quickly.This method removes the spool from being able to help you and would force you to exact with your stops. I also have questions of how effective this would be in a high current environment. And let's not forget about all the extra line---so many possibilities.
