Will Air Integration in dive computers replace the SPG?

Maybe not. A "better" system of measurement is very subjective. Some are more numerically convenient as far as the Hindu-Arabic numeral system (that we use) goes, but the true value is in comprehension. It is all about you.

If I told my Brit friend that I went up against a 16 stone dude, he would immediately have an image in mind.

Depend where you are? You ask for 1/2L in Europe.
You have to be flexible in life.
 
I agree metric is better than imperial. I do use it for measuring liquids and some distances. I haven't sat down and worked out the conversions for diving other than the obvious, depth.

Nevertheless, fortunately for those who have WAI and are fluent with both systems, they can just press a button on their computer to switch to metric or imperial depending on what their buddy is using. No need to have two SPG's or try to read the smaller numbers on dominant/dual gauges. :D
Sit down -and don't do conversions- but actually work & comprehend with Metric in Scuba.

Your cardinal depths in meters on a Dive Table go by three's:
3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 27, 30 etc. Any number that falls in between, just round it conservatively to the next deeper cardinal depth (i.g. 16 meters rounds deeper to 18).

It's easy to get depth in ATA from meters: divide-by-ten and then add one;
So 15 meters depth equals 2.5 ATA.

If your pressure SAC rate for a particular tank is 1 bar/min per ATA, then you know your consumption at 15 meters is 2.5 bar/min (that is 1 times 2.5 equals 2.5).

If you check your SPG (or AI) at 10 minutes elapsed time, you would expect to consume 25 bar of gas (i.g. 2.5 times 10 equals 25). If for instance the SPG (or AI) shows a delta of 35 bar or more consumed instead, you're either working/breathing too hard or have a leak somewhere and probably should consider aborting the dive in either case.

Here are some example pressure Surface Consumption Rate (SCR) values for a variety of common cylinders, given a arbitrary nominal constant volume SCR of 22 litres/min per ATA (a reasonable & achievable breathing SAC-RMV for most novice divers):

11L/bar tank (AL80): 2bar/min per ATA;
12L/bar tank (Steel HP100): 1.8bar/min per ATA;
13L/bar tank (AL100): 1.7bar/min per ATA;
15L/bar tank (Steel HP119): 1.5bar/min per ATA;
16L/bar tank (Steel HP130): 1.4bar/min per ATA;
11L Twins (Double AL80's): 1bar/min per ATA;
12L Twins (Double HP100's): 0.9bar/min per ATA;
16L Twins (Double HP130's): 0.7bar/min per ATA.

That's it --Easy peasy, Metric squeezy!

Cool. I still like my WAI.

Eventually it will replace the SPG IMO.

5 years ago, almost every Tech diver here determined a computer was useless and not worth the money, among other things. In time, Wireless AI will replace the SPG.

Great! Predict what your WAI should read --and confirm in Bar units.

A great & practical way to use metric for those US Divers with AI who want to learn. . .
(and to quickly eBay a WAI unit when an analog bar unit SPG will do just as well).
