can you get a service manual and rebuild kits for them?

This really hits the nail on the head. For me, if I were to go through the dive shop annual service stuff at $50-$100 per reg, per year, I'd go broke with 7 of them. There ARE good regs with good service manuals and parts available to the masses. Dive-rite, zeagle come to mind (I have them and can get them). Apeks so I have heard is much the same.

I'd personally never buy a reg that I can't service and get parts for myself. I don't NEED a shop person to do the work that I am perfectly capable of doing easily myself.

I got the SPs because, well... I have been diving SP forever, and they were available cheap from 2nd through n-order sources. I can service them myself, so I am no too worried about getting SPs blessing. Mk25/S600 primary, Mk25/G250HP secondary, Mk20/G250HP deco.

I currrently dive a SP MK15/D400. In looking at Apeks vs SP for doubles, my personal conclusion is that Apeks wins out for (1) better hose routing, (2) better reputation for cold water, and (3) easier servicing.

Just my personal conclusion.

You are WAY off on #1

Kool-aid spelled with that "k" is... so... German...

The main reason that the Apeks is used of course, is that it is a proven model that has been/is used by tech divers in many different dive profiles. The S600 is not there yet... The SP250HP/MK25 or with MK17 is the prefered Scubapro model for similar dive profiles.

No logic there the s600 has been around since 2000, the 17 only a couple of years. The 600 is way more proven than the MK17.

Since SP realized diaphrams were the future in 98 or so they haven't kept one in the line for long, MK14, MK16, MK18, MK17 and Now Mk11.

Good thing Cressi helped them out.

As far as the DS4's I agree.... the SP MK25's seem to rout so much better.... My DS4's seemt o pinch the wing and end up bending the hoses

What do you mean by "proven design"? You know how many tech divers are using ScubaPro MK25AF/S600. Except the cold water, I don't see anything wrong.

Plus his comment on the G250HP, most tech divers that have been diving SP for awhile hate the 250HP and prefer the old design 250. If SP would only make the old 2 piece poppet(blue and metal) there would be some folks in heaven...

Rick Murchison:
I did see someone with some Apeks regs recently - they said they perform well, and I expect they do. As for me, I started out with Conshelf and have been happy with the Aqua Lung/US Divers regs over the years. I dive Legends and Cousteau/SEA/Micras for back/travel/stage gas now, a Conshelf for the 50% deco bottle and a Calypso for 80-100% deco. Sometimes I'll throw a Titan in there on a travel bottle.
If someone offered me a set of top-or-the-line Apeks regs at a killer price I'd probably snatch 'em up and be happy, but I'm also happy with the ALs - none of them is for sale :)
Oh, and the ALs are easy to work on, too, especially the Conshelf, Titan & Legend.
Rick

I'm with ya! My primary and workhorse reg is the Legend, and my stages are Titans. I use an Apeks for my safe 2nd because it just won't freeflow in any position.

I have Apeks ATX200, MK25/S600, MK17/S555 for back gas, all consider good performance regs, my conclusion is Apeks are "Best of the best"
