I don't know, all my tech diving buddies use Apex . . . except for the ones who use Scubapro, Sherwood, Aqualung, Poseidon, DiveRite, Atomics, Zeagle, or Dacor.

And we all wear black, too (underwear).

Tech divers use Apeks because they're sheepish followers like any other group.

hypoglycemic irritability today? you should drink a little kool-aid to fix that...

Well, there is agrain of truth to what he said. I remember looking for regs and my instructor said get DS4 with TX50's and I went out and bought them.

Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

I currrently dive a SP MK15/D400. In looking at Apeks vs SP for doubles, my personal conclusion is that Apeks wins out for (1) better hose routing, (2) better reputation for cold water, and (3) easier servicing.

Just my personal conclusion.

Kool-aid spelled with that "k" is... so... German...

The main reason that the Apeks is used of course, is that it is a proven model that has been/is used by tech divers in many different dive profiles. The S600 is not there yet... The SP250HP/MK25 or with MK17 is the prefered Scubapro model for similar dive profiles.

Never heard of "cool-aid," would "cool-whip" do?

Yeah, but it is so pricey compared to SP and Apeks.
Every time that I have priced them the atomics have come in cheaper than either SP or Apeks. People look at Atomics gimicky regs such as the T2 and the M1 and think that atomics are expensive, but you are looking at the wrong end of the line.

All of Atomics regs use the exact same design, and they all perform the same. The only difference is in features. IMHO the Atomic Z1/Z2 is the best in the line, and it just so happens to be the cheapest. The few features of the M1 that would actually be useful can be easily added to the Z1/Z2 for very little money.

I did see someone with some Apeks regs recently - they said they perform well, and I expect they do. As for me, I started out with Conshelf and have been happy with the Aqua Lung/US Divers regs over the years. I dive Legends and Cousteau/SEA/Micras for back/travel/stage gas now, a Conshelf for the 50% deco bottle and a Calypso for 80-100% deco. Sometimes I'll throw a Titan in there on a travel bottle.
If someone offered me a set of top-or-the-line Apeks regs at a killer price I'd probably snatch 'em up and be happy, but I'm also happy with the ALs - none of them is for sale :)
Oh, and the ALs are easy to work on, too, especially the Conshelf, Titan & Legend.
