Sherwood Blizzards are one of the best cold water first stages ever made. We'd come out of the water in the Arctic with the first stage covered with a ball of ice the size of a grapefruit, and it still worked fine.

Cerich,
I was specifically referring to the XTX FSR. Does your statement still apply?

Thanks!

yes, it is good but feel the SP MK10/15/20/25, Atomic,OCEANIC Px3 allow a cleaner setup.

OK. So, what about the A.F. kit for the SP MK25. Does that bring it up to the level of the APEKS for cold water?

I'm less concerned about servicing since my LDS carries both.

Depending on their age the Zeagles are Apex. Until recently Zeagles were relabled Apex regs. My Zeagle actually came in an Apex box.

hoosier:
So, Zeagle is still getting the reg. from Apeks or from others?

herman:
My understanding is Zeagle now makes their own regs based on an Apex design.

Herman,

You know Zeagle history better than that!

2000 was the transition year... old Apeks made regs preceeded that by about 8 years, and now 7 years of Zeagle made regulators.

Zeagle regulators have some Apeks design similarities - the dry sealed 1st stage - the 2nd stage venturi device - and the 2nd stage valve, most noticeably.

Our 1st stage conical valve design was Poseidon influenced.

A compact conventional 2nd stage case was in use by Atomic & Scubapro.

And we have an IDI look alike exhaust T.

Some of our new models have some Sherwood influences.

Plus his comment on the G250HP, most tech divers that have been diving SP for awhile hate the 250HP and prefer the old design 250. If SP would only make the old 2 piece poppet(blue and metal) there would be some folks in heaven...

I know what you are talking about. Like you said, it is because of the metal poppet instead of a plastic one mainly used in G250HP & S600 nowadays. But, it is inappropriate to say that S600/G250HP isn’t the proven design because of the plactic poppet...

By and large, “Proven for what”? Cold water? How much cold water?

SP put the 2nd generation TIS2 since 2006 model, but I am not sure how much it is improved. I don’t have a chance to test it yet. ;) If you are really worried about the cold water performance, MK17 will be your right choice.

But, again, how much cold water are you being worried about?

Chad,
Thanks for the info about Zeagle regulators. Basically, it sounds like Zeagle mixes all designs piece by piece from other major brands. So, what model is the best performance one in your line?

Are you Zeagle man?

Just wondering if you have any exp with the delta 4 and cold water?
I have'nt seen one out here in Calgary yet. Is'nt this a fairly new reg? I know it scored very high in Scuba Diving Mag. I do think the real Tec Divers would frown on the swivel though.

I still have a swivel on my first stage (atmos pro) that I use on my 40. I just havent got to removing it yet(I actually like it).

Not sure exactly when it was released.. .was reviewed in Dec 2005. so that may have been the typical pre-release eval. They may not like the swivel, but I would like to know how this reg is going to preform in cold water. Eventually would like to buy a dry suit and do some diving up in the GL area. Not to mention I think it would be fun to do some ice diving in time.
