Performance & speed, less effort, better air consumption, Quality materials and design.

Interesting. I wasn't aware there were quality issues with any fin on the market from a materials perspective.

How did you test "less effort" and "better air consumption"? Were these tests done using a variety of kicks or just the flutter kick?

Soggy:
For the record, I have owned Twin Jets and have dived other varieties of split fins. They all suck for anything except a flutter kick, and for that they are indeed very good if you can manage to keep 10 feet off the bottom to avoid silting everything up.

Sorry mate, you do simply do not know how to kick/swim with the split fins.

In fact I do know how to kick in splits. I do understand the difference in fin kick required. Sorry mate, you apparently don't know how to do (or are ignorant of) any of the other kicks...the ones that are useful in an environment other than a wall dive in Cozumel. I applaud your loyalty to your company, but I'm sorry to say that this is one product that has limited usefulness. Clearly you don't understand the physics involved.

you're not johnnyseko on ebay are you?
Nope, but he is here on SB. We're in a bidding war. :D

Hehehehehehehehe......damn who drove the price up on those fins???? Not to worry, I wont snipe you near the end of auction. You can have those. I'm in no rush. I'd be wary of pilotfish, though - looks like he might be looking for a pair too!:D

While you sit high upon your throne I have to say that if you can't keep from sliting up the bottom when you're closer than 10 feet to it, then I agree, you don't know how to kick.

It only has limited usefulness to limited divers :)

Good on you lad.

As a former owner and user of Apollo Split fins I want to thank MDB for presenting his case here and not taking the bait.

Soggy, you raise some interesting points. Many which I agree with, but I have to say that in face of having his business slammed in this thread MDB has represented himself with commendable restraint and answered each of your questions rather well.

While some of us may have switched over to Jets for a variety of reasons the conduct of MDB certainly speaks volumes about credibility of the company that he works for.

My guess is that Apollo just wanted to come out with a fin that was more user friendly and help divers in that way. From my experience owning a pair, the quality control is excellent and I applaud them for a job well done. If they can make a living in this sport then all the more power to them.

Is there like a special 'split fin kick' or something?

I really don't know much about 'em. I've only worn 'em once and they just felt all flipity-flopity to me. Of course, 90% of the fins my shop sells are splits and they all love to laugh at my jets. But every once in awhile I get to rib 'em back. Like the other day when one of the split fin wearing instructors complained that he couldn't get enough torgue to push a student around. :D

I gotta agree. I think of MDB as a wise old guru kinda guy. This isn't the first time that he's pulled in the reins. I know I've said some things to him before that I should have been slapped for. He just seems to be above haggling... dang it!
