I agree, not everyone should be servicing their own gear. Some people don't have the desire or do not have the mechanical ability. For the people that don't want to service their own gear, they need to find a GOOD service tech. However, what are these people to do if they don't have a good service tech? Should they pay more anyway just so the LDS stays in business?

I think you are making this more difficult than it needs to be.

Maybe, maybe not. I just don't see the point in paying for something I don't/can't get.

Thats the issue though. Just because YOU dont/cant get it, doesnt mean that EVERYONE else doesnt/cant.

Agreed. My recommendation not to buy from an LDS is just a general statement based on my experiences locally and elsewhere. If you can find a good LDS, you don't have a problem.

I've found a few decents shops, and I have no problems. I'd like to be able to service my own regs, but I just don't have the time to devote to learning how to do so properly. EZ, for someone like you who knows how to do it all, you have no need for warranties and such. But then again, not everyone knows as much as you.

After being at work for two days I see their are several different opinions. Thanks for both sides! I've read all your veiws and see good points to both. But with an up coming trip and wanting to get a reg that is not at the bottom of the performance level we have decided to go with an online dealer with a warranty. I can support my LDS in other ways classes, new gear that is not so out of line in cost conparison. But having to buy two sets and not winning the lotto last night we have to be realistic. Thanks to everyone. If there is a misspelled word or two its been a long 48hrs.

i hate to jump in the middle of a war on my 2nd post but... How am i supposed to service my own regs when i cant get parts. I would love to service my own regs, but i dont want to be limited to the one or two regs that actually sell replacement parts. I have a sherwood oasis 2 and a standard usd for my octo and i will be dammed if i can find parts for them. So that leaves me having to use an lds. I know for a fact that i could and would service my regs far better and with greater care than any lds would, but untill you can get parts with ease serviceing your own regs will remain out of reach to me and alot of others.

Some say that you just have to get to know your lds and they might slip you your parts... thats fine and dandy if you have known the people for a long time, and that still does not always work.

So im not trying to flame or anything but how about constructive critisism... if you are going to bring up self serviceing of regs lets us know where we can get parts to make your argument valid.

Or tell us of a better place to get our regs serviced than the lds, and i do mean name places. That way you lend creedance to your argument because you have backed it up with alternatives. (hence constructive critisism)

Hope i didnt step on any toes, just wanted to point out that people might listen more if you give a valid alternative instead of just saying its better this way or that :54:

P.S. i even got vance harlow's reg manual, but its doesent do any good if i cant get the parts... i.e. hp seat, filter..etc... o rings are easy, but those are not nearly all the parts you need :frown2:

...and just to make y'all jealous... I looked at leisurepro.com's website for the first time today. I looked up the cost of several pieces of gear that I know the price for in the LDS's in Singapore. Using current exchange rates, almost everything was a fair bit cheaper at our LDS, and that does not take into account any shipping charges. Cool, huh? I'd still prefer to service my own reg if I could.

You can get parts fairly easily...you just have to know where to look.

If you can get parts from the LDS, great. Most shops won't do that because it means you won't be spending any money with them and it's a liability issue.

Keep your eyes open and do some searching and I'm sure you'll find some sources for parts.
