Dang, it, I feel pretty strong about this. Shorties are for jet skiers - not for divers who have to climb a ladder at the end of every dive. :11:

If a 3 mil Shorty is enough thermal protection, why not a 3 mil Long jumpsuit? Much more protection against scrapes, blood dripping on the deck, bacterial complications, etc.

BTW, I wear cheap, nylon socks to protect my ankle that might be exposed when I wear a low bootie or full-foot fins.

Because some people are cheapskates like me ;)
My knees and lower legs can attest to this :).

Or if you are a Cannuck with ample bioprene used to cold water year round and you go to Florida in Jan/Feb....that is all you need to keep cool/warm.

Been there, done that......and funniest thing was that I was freaking out the locals who were diving in 7mil suits

Perhaps there is a purely economic reason.

While many divers do dive shorties (me in the summer)

Also... Why wouldn't a dive shop carry the full line from one of their suppliers? aren't Non-divers allowed at the dive shop? Wouldn't the dive shop want to maximize profit, by crossing over from being just a dive shop, and sell supplies for whatever water sport's products fit the general gist of the store?

Yeah, ok - but what about my question: If a 3 mil Shorty is enough thermal protection, why not a 3 mil Long jumpsuit? Much more protection against scrapes, blood dripping on the deck, bacterial complications, etc.

Why even own a shorty when the long is virutally the same price? Yes - a skin under a shorty will protect, but why not just skip to the real suit - a skin under a long?

I never considered a shorty, I like mine tall...lol No, honestly, I want protection, not even considering the warmth factor.

You could layer, i usually wear a skin under my full length wet suit...easier to get it on, adds warmth.

I see people diving in shorts and a t-shirt.....I can understand if they are warm enough, but I would prefer something between me and the elements.
